Megxit round two?
In a report almost as shocking as the one that confirmed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were returning to live in the U.K. six years after decamping to the U.S., a veteran royal reporter just revealed the couple could soon be headed back to sunny California.

According to The Daily Mail’s Alison Boshoff, the Sussexes remain unhappy with their security situation in Harry’s homeland and that could ultimately drive them back to Markle’s home state forevermore.
Boshoff cited “well-placed sources” who told her the “extraordinary news” that a return to Montecito, California – for good – “has not been ruled out” and could actually “come within weeks.” It all appears to hinge on the results of the “security assessment” currently being carried out by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (Ravec).
The couple have reportedly been asked to document their “pattern of life,” which Boshoff reported includes school runs for their children Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5. That raises eyebrows given that the kids were dramatically pulled from their new school after just two days over alleged traffic and safety concerns.
Harry apparently believes he has a very strong case for taxpayer-funded security “in terms both of need and entitlement” after attempts for protection through other avenues were denied. But a “friend” of the duke told Boshoff he and the fam will likely “go back to Montecito for good” if the security doesn’t come through–and that could be as soon as “half-term” in October.
Rough Start
On Wednesday’s show, Megyn called the thought of the Sussexes retreating back to the states “unreal,” though not entirely unforeseeable given how poorly things seem to be going for them so far.
In addition to the school incident, Harry and Markle were reportedly left embarrassed and enraged after King Charles took the shocking step of issuing a letter to senior government officials clarifying that the pair are nothing more than private citizens–regardless of what their public appearances and philanthropic work may try to telegraph.
“It is well known that in January 2020 the Duke and Duchess stepped down from undertaking representative duties on behalf of The Sovereign, and are no longer working Members of The Royal Family,” the letter read. “This position, distinct from the State and Royal duties undertaken by the working Royal Family, and with the personal latitude it brings the couple in respect of financial independence and protection of their privacy as they would wish, will continue to be fully respected.”
“There is no change to the current status of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex,” it stated, and “their styles as His and Her Royal Highness remain in abeyance and are not used.” Additionally, any charity work undertaken by the pair is “a personal matter for them both… in their private capacity.”
‘How Low Can You Go?’
There have been reports of sparse crowds and chilly receptions at some of the events Harry has attended since being home, and he was already back in New York City this week for a speech at an event for the Clinton Global Initiative that didn’t go according to plan.
While speaking about artificial intelligence and its adverse effect on children, the prince’s teleprompter stopped working. Rather than ad-lib, he stood idly by for several uncomfortable seconds before awkwardly saying, “And that’s it?” and leaving the stage.
He returned some 40 minutes later to finish his remarks, but Megyn was less than impressed. “How humiliating! I mean, honestly, you’re a prince of England. You can’t ad-lib a paragraph worth of summary and a goodbye? I’m embarrassed for you… Get it together,” she said.
Back across the pond, Markle was spotted in public for the first time since the move, meeting with fellow ex-pats Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi at a pub in Oxfordshire. Photos obtained by Page Six showed the former actress in a blue button-down shirt and sunglasses chatting with the disgraced former talk show host and her wife.
“What happened over there in the U.K. is she made sure that she was caught on camera with the one celebrity friend she appears to have over in England, and it is the person who is arguably as nasty as she is, Ellen DeGeneres,” Megyn said. “I mean, the absolute irony of picking to show everybody, like, ‘I have friends’… one of the nastiest people in showbiz-it’s just perfect. It’s on point.”
To add insult to injury, Megyn noted, Harry’s brother and sister-in-law–Prince William and Princess Catherine–were also out and about this week. They made headlines for a glamorous appearance alongside Hollywood royalty at the London premiere of Tom Cruise’s new film Digger.
“It’s not a word you say every day, but [Kate] looked resplendent in this stunning gown… She is glowing… They both look stunning. They’re with actual A-list celebrities,” Megyn concluded. “And these two losers are worrying about failed teleprompters, fears against the end of the world, and trying to make ourselves look important by hanging out with fellow bullies. How low can you go?”
