Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s move back to the U.K. doesn’t seem to be going according to plan–despite what the former Suits star may be trying to portray with her attention-grabbing social media posts.
Shock Letter
First up, King Charles took the extraordinary step of breaking his silence on the couple’s return to Harry’s homeland. In a letter sent on behalf of the monarch last week, it was reiterated that Harry and Meghan do not, in any way, represent the Crown.
In a letter to senior government officials, His Majesty said he sought to “help avoid doubt or confusion… following the decision by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to relocate to the U.K.”
“It is well known that in January 2020 the Duke and Duchess stepped down from undertaking representative duties on behalf of The Sovereign, and are no longer working Members of The Royal Family,” the letter stated. “This position, distinct from the State and Royal duties undertaken by the working Royal Family, and with the personal latitude it brings the couple in respect of financial independence and protection of their privacy as they would wish, will continue to be fully respected.”
King Charles went on to note that “there is no change to the current status of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex” and that “their styles as His and Her Royal Highness remain in abeyance and are not used.” Any charity work undertaken by the pair is “a personal matter for them both… in their private capacity.”
“In short, their position is akin to private citizens with commercial and charitable interests,” the letter declares.
Sussex Spin
The sentence, in particular, reportedly did not sit well with Harry and Markle. People magazine, which is known to have a cozy relationship with the couple, published an article days later claiming the Sussexes were “surprised” by the timing of the guidance letter. A spokesperson offered a similar message to the BBC, saying they were “a little surprised not to have been told about this in advance.”
But the story doesn’t exactly add up. Sources close to the couple told People that their team received the letter just before 2pm and allegedly responded asking for clarification on certain points–including whether it had been circulated to the press–20 minutes later. They apparently did not hear back until an hour later when they were told the media had been made aware.
The hissy fit, Megyn said, is par for the course with these two. “They were angry it wasn’t shared with them in advance, as if the king has an obligation to share his thoughts on what’s happening with the Royal Family with this Nimrod who left them and called them all racists, along with his loser wife,” she said on Tuesday’s Megyn Kelly Show.
“But it turns out the king had shared the letter with the Duke and Duchess of Duplicity an hour and 10 minutes earlier; basically gave them an hour heads up on what he had planned to issue,” Megyn added. “And then they ride around issuing their own obvious statements to the press, pointing out that they prefer ‘public figures’ to ‘private citizens.’ Now, Mr. and Mrs. Privacy, which is the lie they’ve been putting to us for six years, want us to know they find that term offensive, and they want to be referred to as public figures. I can’t with these two.”
Social Media Over-Share
Speaking of privacy, Markle generated headlines on Sunday when she posted an Instagram Reel offering a surprisingly intimate look at life in England for her family. Watch:
Set to “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” by British group Wham!, the post featured various short clips of Harry and Markle and their two children–7-year-old Archie and 5-year-old Lilibet–walking in the countryside, riding bikes, fishing on a pond, splashing in puddles, and more. A red heart and Union Jack emoji hovered over the compilation.
“Ms. Privacy has posted repeated videos online with little Easter eggs about where Ms. Privacy is located, and all of England has figured out exactly where they live,” Megyn noted. “She has doxed herself.”
School’s Out… on Day 2?!
Within 24 hours of the As Ever founder posting the identifying information about their whereabouts came the news that the Sussexes were pulling their kids from school a mere two days into the term over security concerns.
“The decision for the children to move school was taken following a discussion with the family’s security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements,” a spokesperson for Harry and Markle said in a statement Monday.
“The parents remain extremely grateful to all the teachers and staff for the love, care and effort they have shown their family,” the statement continued. “This decision should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there.”
The couple’s security team reportedly determined that the daily commute was too difficult to manage safely. According to Hello! Magazine, traffic in the area, combined with the distance between the school and the family’s home, put too much strain on the security detail.
The drama revives a long-running dispute between Harry and U.K. authorities over security arrangements. The prince has maintained his family requires greater protection when in Britain and wants taxpayer-funded protection. “They want the British taxpayers to fund it, so they came up with what are clearly a bunch of fake security threats,” Megyn posited.
“It’s safe for your loser children, people of England, but it’s not safe for these children because ‘people want to kill them.’ They want us to know people are out to kill their children and them,” she said. “It is unspecified who. The only proof we’ve ever seen of this is some memo from Harry’s staff.”
Seemingly missing from all the latest drama, Megyn noted, is concern for the emotional wellbeing of the two children who were just moved to a new country and plopped into a new school only to then be immediately removed from said school.
“It’s bad enough they’ve moved them all the way to another country, not to another state full of more Americans like they’re used to, or a school system that seems familiar, but to the UK, where everything is different for these two,” Megyn said. You know how it is, every kid has a little nerves going into school for the first day. They go in, they get past the nerves… and they get yanked out of the school by these ridiculous, absurd, safetyism-obsessed parents, who now must be communicating to the children that the school isn’t safe for them.”
‘We Don’t Like You’
Ultimately, Megyn theorized that it all boils down to Harry and Meghan’s “quest for fame and relevance,” which already seems to have hit several snags.
“There was the report from Tina Brown that [Markle], in fact, was seeking a role in The Gentleman by Guy Ritchie… There was another subsequent report that it was never an offer… Whatever is true, the blowback against Guy Ritchie and The Gentleman for even considering this was so enormous it was off before it began,” she explained.
“That’s what happens when you call millions of people racist; when we know your terrible antics obviously helped kill the queen, not to mention her husband; and when you show the world that you’re a narcissistic small person,” Megyn concluded. “That’s like we don’t like you.”
