After months of breathless speculation, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce both said ‘yes’ to their ‘love story’ at Madison Square Garden in New York City Friday night.
The 14-time Grammy winner and Kansas City Chiefs tight end tied the knot in an opulent ceremony in front of 1,000 of their closest ‘friends.’ According to Variety, those who scored an invite to the nuptials received watermarked, digital invitations alongside a very romantic non-disclosure agreement.
Reacting to the rumors about the not-so-secret spectacle last week, Megyn called the choice of venue and grandeur “gauche” and too “on the nose in terms of [being] attention getting.” And with almost all the absurd reports about the size and scope of the event turning out to be true, Megyn explained to Piers Morgan on Monday’s Piers Morgan Uncensored why she actually feels sorry for the star.
Swift’s Blank Space?
Based on what has been made public by guests and reports, Morgan said the Swift and Kelce’s wedding seemed “a bit OTT [over the top],” something Megyn believes suggests Swift might have a ‘blank space’ to fill.
“I may shock you, but I feel sorry for Taylor Swift. I really think she’s empty inside,” Megyn posited. “I think most people who seek fame at a very early age – like, in their teens – are chasing after some sort of fullness that wasn’t provided by their family of origin for whatever reason. And it never comes. It’s a lifelong pursuit because fame and money, adoration from strangers does not fill that void. Only you, God, and your immediate loved ones can.”
So High School
One tell? The size of the star-studded guest list, which included everyone from Ed Sheeran, Bradley Cooper, and Hugh Grant to Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, and Oprah Winfrey.
“Look at the guest list. Oprah, really? Steven Spielberg – those two are super close to Stephen Spielberg? I don’t believe that for one second,” Megyn said. “The music stars I can accept. That makes some sense to me that she would be immersed in country music in particular and would know a lot of the big stars there.”
What Megyn couldn’t make sense of is why Adam Sandler was chosen as the officiant for the ceremony which reportedly included Swift and Kelce both spending 20 minutes reading their vows.
“Adam Sandler officiating – how did that come about,” Megyn wondered. “We are told by the papers that Travis and he were in Happy Gilmore 2 together. When was Happy Gilmore 2 made? 2025. So, I’m sure they go way back.”
Morgan said the bizarro who’s who called to mind another high-profile wedding. “It reminds me of Meghan and Harry’s wedding where suddenly George Clooney popped up [even though] there was no suggestion they’d ever met… and Oprah was sitting where all her family would sit because none of her family got invited,” he recalled
“I mean, it is a bit weird – these kind of weddings where any celebrity you can think of rocks up for your most private nuptials,” Morgan added.
“It’s so awkward,” Megyn admitted. “It makes me feel so uncomfortable.”
The Life of a Showgirl
While the bride and groom have yet to formally confirm anything other than the fact that they wore custom Christian Dior looks and she accessorized hers with Christian Louboutin heels and Cartier jewels, reports indicate MSG was completely transformed into an intimate “garden” setting.
Morgan said it reads more like Swift was “putting on a show” than getting married. Megyn “totally” agreed, especially when you consider all of the Swifties who gathered outside the arena.
“The fact that it was at Madison Square Garden with all the plebs outside like, ‘Oh, Taylor.’ God forbid they get anywhere near the actual couple,” Megyn concluded. “They just needed to be there playing their part in the play for the Disney princess.”
