Actor Timothy Busfield turned himself in to New Mexico authorities Tuesday, days after a warrant was issued for his arrest on disturbing child sex abuse charges.
The West Wing star, who is married to actress Melissa Gilbert, is accused of engaging in unlawful sexual conduct with 11-year-old twin boys while directing the Fox show The Cleaning Lady in 2024. Court documents allege the abuse began in 2022 when the boys were 7 years old.
Busfield faces two counts of criminal misconduct against a minor — one for each child — according to a warrant issued on Friday by the Albuquerque Police Department. U.S. Marshals joined in the hunt for the actor, who has been unaccounted for, on Tuesday, forcibly entering his home in upstate New York.
By that time, Busfield had made his way to New Mexico to surrender. In a video message his attorney shared with TMZ, the actor and director claimed he was innocent and said he had been MIA because he “had to get a lawyer” and “[get] in a car and drove 2,000 miles to Albuquerque.”
