The Strudwick File: End of an Era?!

This week marks the third anniversary of Megyn’s weekly newsletter, which means it is also the third anniversary of The Strudwick File. We have brought you plenty of silliness, sweetness, and shenanigans in the weeks, months, and years since, but things might start to look a little different around here.

Here’s the message Megyn sent our editor earlier this week:

I can’t believe I’m about to put this in writing, but I think Strud has become… a good dog?!

He sleeps a lot more now. He’s calm and sweet. He gets a three-hour exercise session in the morning, and it’s been a total game changer. He’s – almost – a pleasure. The Strudwick File may have a limited shelf life, as my own life gets significantly better!

It occurs to me it is also because, after four years, we finally figured out how to manage him. And our zone defense is finally working thanks to a few simple rules:

1. Make sure Strud sleeps in his crate. No roaming.
2. Don’t leave one morsel of food out anywhere
3. Don’t leave bags or backpacks of food or food-like products anywhere
4. Don’t leave the pantry door open!
5. Don’t leave wooden spoons on the stove
6. Don’t leave any food on top of the microwave thinking it is safe (see Rule No. 1)
7. Don’t leave sunglasses or anything potentially chewable toward the front of the counters
8. Don’t open the doors into the kitchen and family room EVER or he will roam and destroy
9. Don’t put corn, gourds, pumpkins, or anything potentially edible in any holiday display

So, what does this mean for The Strudwick File going forward? For starters, we’ll continue to update you whenever our dear friend gets into trouble (a tiger can’t totally change its stripes, right?) or has an adorable moment that is too cute not to share. But for weeks when there is nothing new to report, we will instead reference our *extensive* archive of past Strud stories to – hopefully! – brighten your day.

Thanks for being here!
