Tim Walz Tried – and Failed – to ‘Burn’ President Trump in Awkward Speech at DNC Summer Meeting

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz was not an effective communicator as Kamala Harris’ running mate on the 2024 campaign trail, and things apparently haven’t gotten any better for the leftist pol.

The progressive governor was a speaker at the Democratic National Committee’s summer meeting in Minneapolis Monday, where he tried – and failed – to dis President Donald Trump with his latest attempt at his ‘tough guy’ shtick

On Tuesday’s show, Megyn was joined by the hosts of The Fifth Column – Kmele Foster, Michael Moynihan, and Matt Welch – to discuss Walz’s bizarre behavior and what it says about the Democrat Party.

Walz ‘Burns’ Trump

The Democrats have a messaging problem that is certainly contributing to their “voter registration crisis,” and, as usual, Walz doesn’t seem to be helping matters. Speaking to a friendly crowd in his home state, the former vice presidential nominee tried to land a few barbs against Trump. But he wasn’t exactly successful.

At one point, Walz attempted to insult Trump and his supporters while also nodding to the news of the day, though it didn’t really translate. “Think of how easy it would be to be a damn Republican,” he began. “‘Oh, what should I wear today? This stupid friggin’ red hat.’ ‘What should I say today? I don’t know, just make sure it’s cruel.’ ‘Who do we listen to? That guy. Oh, the felon in the White House? Yeah, listen to him and that will be fine.'”

Then he really went off the rails. “Now he’s talking about burning flags,” Walz continued. “He’s gonna have flag burning or whatever ‘cause he knows there’s a hell of a lot of flags with his picture on it that are gonna get burned.”

“He’s gonna have flag burning or whatever” seems to be a reference to Trump’s executive order seeking to ban the burning of the American flag, which is unlikely to stand up to legal scrutiny. But it is unclear what Walz was talking about when he claimed there are a “hell of a lot of flags with his picture on it that are gonna get burned.”

But there wasn’t much time to mull that over because the speech got even stranger from there. Walz also waxed poetic about his former running mate before trying to mock… Trump’s ankles.

“The privilege of my lifetime was [to] stand aside someone we know was the most qualified and would have been a fantastic president in a President Harris,” he shared. “And look, we wouldn’t wake up every day to a bunch of sh-t on TV and a bunch of nonsense. We would wake up to an adult with compassion and dignity and vision and leadership doing the work – not a man child crying about whatever’s wrong with him.”

“May his fat ankles find something today,” Walz said inexplicably. “Petty as hell.”

If you can figure that one out, please let us know.

Trump ‘Cover Bands’

Much like California Gov. Gavin Newsom employing a team to create memes and write ‘mean tweets’ in all caps à la Donald Trump and Sen. Chris Murphy’s newfound love of four-letter words, Moynihan said Walz is making a fool of himself while trying to imitate the man he wishes to mock. “I want Gavin Newsom and Tim Walz to start writing checks to Donald Trump for stealing his bits,” he said. “It’s an amazing thing to… watch Democrats who are desperately trying to be Donald Trump cover bands.”

He said the strategy has never worked for Republicans, and it won’t work for those on the other side of the aisle either. “I used to mention this all the time about Republicans all of a sudden doing their impressions of Donald Trump, and being really bad at it,” Moynihan added. “I would see it all over the place and just be like, ‘Oh, come on, guys. He’s singular in that sense. Don’t try to be it.'”

Megyn agreed. “He didn’t even stick the landing,” she said. “‘May his fat ankles find something today’ –huh? If you have to work to understand it, is it a good burn?”
