Dissecting the Bizarre Relationship and Ridiculous Wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez

It’s official! Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez tied the knot in an elaborate, star-studded Venetian ceremony on Friday.

The multi-day affair saw the couple frolicking at a foam party on their mega yacht, zipping around Italian waterways in couture, and assembling a who’s who of wedding guests that may or may not have any actual connection to them.

On Friday’s show, Megyn was joined by Maureen Callahan, host of MK Media’s The Nerve with Maureen Callahan, to discuss the spectacle of the pair’s courtship and marriage and why they don’t think the relationship will last.

The Guest List

After days of celebrations in and around Venice, Bezos and his bride reportedly got married in a black-tie ceremony on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore. It was expected only about 200 people would be invited to the lavish event (which was estimated to cost about $50,000 a head), but the couple made sure to pack the guest list with big names.

Sánchez’s fellow ‘astronaut’ Gayle King made the cut alongside her BFF Oprah Winfrey. A litany of Kardashians were seen in the Floating City for the festivities, as was Tom Brady, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Usher. In addition to the reality TV royalty, actual royalty was on hand in the form of Queen Rania of Jordan.

It is unclear what kind of personal connection, if any, Bezos and Sánchez have to those in attendance, and Megyn said it called to mind another headline-making wedding. “This is exactly what Meghan [Markle] and [Prince] Harry did. The bigger your name, the more likely you were to get an invite,” she noted. “Because what matters to them is that it is a star-studded event, not that they have dear friends who love them standing up for them when they take a sacred vow.”

The Spectacle

In Callahan’s view, the vibe of the whole affair (literally and figuratively) has been off. “It feels very decadent… It feels like a freak show, and it’s aggressively f-you to the rest of us who are just grinding it out day to day,” she noted. “Bouncing around with her pneumatic boobs… it’s just disgusting.”

Megyn agreed, likening the “excessiveness” to “fanning out your money with a middle finger in front of it” for the world to see, and she believes the world is seeing this entire event – complete with long-lens pics of the pair hosting a “foam party” on the deck of their palatial boat – because Bezos and Sánchez want it that way.

“I am 100 percent convinced they call the paparazzi,” she said. “There is a reason these two always happen to get shot while on their yacht… We just happened to see him smacking her ass. We just happened to see the foam party. They want us to be looking at this, which is a real middle-finger-with-the-money-splayed-out, Marie Antoinette moment.”

What the Future Holds

Amid reporting from The Daily Mail and others that the couple – who began their romance in 2018 while still married to other people – signed a massive prenuptial agreement, Megyn said all that glimmers is not gold with these two.

“To me, there is no way this lasts. I do not think this is a marriage made in heaven. There is the phrase ‘you lose them, how you get them,’ and that doesn’t bode well for either of them,” she noted. “I am sure she is going to get some big settlement, even if they do divorce. But the just the odds of this lasting are extremely slim.”

With that said, Megyn does believe the two has one thing going for them. “I’ll say one nice thing since I have said so many not nice things about them… I don’t think she is a bad person. I’d much rather spend an hour with her than with him,” she admitted. “And I respect the fact that he chose a woman who is age appropriate… He’s 61, and she’s 55.”

It is a welcome change, Megyn said, from the behavior of some of their wedding guests. “The Leonardo DiCaprio thing with only dating to 25-year-old women is very creepy. It freaks me out,” she concluded. “I don’t understand men who are stuck in that mode. I think it is to his credit that he chose somebody who is age-appropriate and came up at the same time, generally, he did.”
