We learned over the weekend that the lone holdout in the Lindsay Clancy mistrial who prevented the verdict from being not guilty by reason of insanity is a black man. Gayle King got one of the white female jurors to reveal that information during a sitdown on CBS. She was stunned.
“A black man is a holdout juror,” a visibly surprised King asked. “Well, I have to sit with that for just a second.”
I genuinely don’t get it. You presumed that anybody who would be willing to find her guilty after she murdered her three children would be white because all black men vote to acquit? Even a black man, Gayle, can be a thinking individual, sentient person who comes up with his own viewpoints on life, liberty, and criminality in a court of law. If this man hadn’t been capable of doing that, presumably, he would not have been selected as a juror.
The Race Card
The race thing also reared its ugly head over on–you’ll be shocked, shocked to learn–Oprah Winfrey’s special coverage of the Clancy trial. You know what is so galling? Oprah Winfrey is a billionaire, thanks to this country. When she was coming up, it was more white than it is now. This country is less white today than it was when Oprah made her billion-plus dollars off of the American people, but she is extremely ‘anti’ now.
We figured that out years ago because when it was between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, she had to choose: Do I go for the woman, or do I go for the black man? She chose race. That was obvious. She was largely responsible for Barack Obama getting the Democratic nomination in 2008.
Now that she has already made her billions, she has really leaned into the whole racial thing. She decided to hold an ‘Oprah Winfrey special’ on this verdict and, of course, they played the race card when she went to OB/GYN Dr. Kameelah Phillips.
Phillips discussed concerns over how little is known about postpartum psychosis and implored those in the audience to have compassion not just for Clancy but for “women of color.”
“And the other thing that I would just be remiss to not say is… I hope this never happens again,” Phillips said. “We know statistically it really will.”
“It will,” Winfrey replied.
“I want us to have the same passion for people who don’t look like Lindsay, who don’t have her same access,” Phillips said, as the audience cheered. “Who don’t have her same access and education, her melanin, her privilege. There are women of color sitting around this country in prisons for the same thing that we’ve never heard of, and I just want to remind us to have the pink shirts and the energy for them as well.”
You see, black voices matter–except the guy who was the whole juror. There are exceptions to the rule. Liberal black voices that vote the way we want them to vote on cases that are important to us matter. Got it? Are we clear on the rules?
Oprah’s Tsk-Tsk
There was also a mother-daughter on set with Oprah, who had a difference of opinion. The mother was more empathetic towards Lindsay Clancy, while the daughter was more in line with the holdout juror. For that, Oprah tsk-tsked her.
MOTHER: You know, I say to her, I think because she hasn’t gone through it. She’s not a mother, so she doesn’t know how it feels to have a child.
WINFREY: And you disagree?
DAUGHTER: I disagree. I am, I feel like I’m not with the majority right now. I do believe she’s a murderer. Um–
WINFREY: After all you’ve heard today you still believe [that]?
DAUGHTER: I’m an advocate for mental health. It’s just unfortunate… I just feel as though these were not instant deaths. They weren’t gunshots to the head. She was there strangling her kids three times. You’re telling me like even after the first time she couldn’t snap out of it? You’re watching the life leave your kid’s eyes, you know? So… I hear everybody’s opinions and God bless mothers, but, at the same time, I just don’t understand how we can empathize with somebody that– they weren’t strangers. They were her kids.
Right on. But you heard Oprah: “After all you’ve heard today?” Yeah, that’s my opinion, Oprah. By the way, Oprah’s never had a child either, so STFU. What would you know about it? You don’t. Just take a seat. Let somebody else have this discussion. I really don’t want to hear from the childless billionaire about how mothers should have the right to kill their children.
She basically said to this young woman: ‘I worked for an hour to indoctrinate you into my thinking.You sat here, and that’s your takeaway? What the hell?’
It is amazing that people are still even watching her or participating in her little roundtables, which are incredibly agenda-driven. I can’t believe I ever listened to this person as someone I allowed to influence my thinking. Thank God I got older and smarter.
