Megyn Agrees with Critics on the ‘Terrible’ World Cup Halftime Show Featuring Madonna, Justin Bieber, and More

The World Cup came to a close on Sunday with Spain’s 1-0 win over Argentina in the final.

Congratulations to Spain and its fans. Personally, I was rooting for Argentina because we have beautiful friends from there who are so sad about the result. I know how important soccer is to basically everybody outside the United States and several million inside the U.S. as well.

You all know I am not a sports person, but I did watch large portions of the final and the tournament with my family. I have to say, I agree with the critics of the halftime show. It was terrible.

First, they opened up with Madonna. I don’t know what she was doing, people. I don’t even know if she can still sing because she only ever uses a track and lip-syncs. I haven’t heard Madonna’s actual voice in a decade or so.

She sang her song “Music,” which was released in… 2000. I liked that song. I remember it when I was married to my first husband – 26 years ago! She was lip-syncing, of course, and the dancing was lame too. That is the one thing Madonna really kind of could do all along. Not there. I don’t know what she was doing. It looked like squatting and writhing because that is her thing these days.

After Madonna, we saw BTS, one of the biggest bands in the world. My friend Bonnie loves them, and I get it. They are normally very talented. I don’t know if they were phoning it in, but both the lip-syncing and the dancing look like a college boy band imitating BTS to me.

The acrobats around them did a good job, but the actual band? This was no Michael Jackson at the Super Bowl. They looked tired. It was like they were jet lagged or something. I was not impressed. Again, if I want to hear a lip-sync track, I will just press play on Spotify or Sirius. Why do I have to tune in to that?

Then came Justin Bieber. He performed an acoustic version of his already very slow song called “Everything Hallelujah.” It is a beautiful song for Christians, but it wasn’t the right song for the World Cup. It slowed everything down. It is a ballad and too sad, too slow, too somber for the event. It brought the mood down.

Thank God for Shakira, who, I must say, saved the day. She was great. It was the right vibe and the right song. She looked amazing. I cannot believe she is 49 years old. She was moving around like she was 29 years old.

Congrats to her on not showing us her vag like she did at the Super Bowl with Jennifer Lopez a couple of years ago. She looked a bit saucy, but not too much for her age or for the setting. And she sang a great song. I think that was also a track, but I forgave it because the dancing was good and she sold it.

I am sad that the World Cup is over. I loved having the fans from all these countries come over here, discover America for the first time, and help a lot of us see our own country anew through their enthusiasm. I also loved all the stars who emerged. I enjoyed getting to know more about Messi and Haaland and Mbappe. Anyway, we will miss them, and we look forward to the next one.
