The RealClearPolitics average shows billionaire Democrat Tom Steyer falling further behind Republican Steve Hilton and fellow Dem Xavier Becerra in the California gubernatorial primary set for June 2, but that hasn’t stopped him from throwing his support behind a yet another radical policy in hopes of attracting far-left voters.
Last month, Steyer made headlines for claiming he was going to protect illegal immigrants in the Golden State by banishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Earlier this month, his campaign caught the eye of ethics watchdogs over allegations it paid social media influencers to promote him without properly disclosing the funding.
And now Steyer is under fire for attaching himself to the wrong side of an issue that the Democrats own 2024 autopsy report said cost Kamala Harris dearly in the election – radical gender ideology.
Steyer’s Support
During an interview with I’ve Had It podcast host Jennifer Welch released Sunday, Steyer said he wholeheartedly supports ‘trans’ athletes competing in high school sports because of the alleged emotional distress they face.
“I’m totally in favor of trans athletes in high school,” he said. “I think when you understand the vulnerability, the stress, the danger of being a trans kid, and you understand that almost half of them try to commit suicide. And then you think we’re going to punish those kids, we’re going to cut them off from team sports, we’re going to cut them off from participating in the community, we’re going to cut them off from fun? It’s like, no, we’re not. No, we’re not.”
“And you know, as someone who played sports my whole life, and love sports, and loved playing sports, there are more important things than whether you start on your high school basketball team. And that is standing up for people who are under threat of death,” he added.
Steyer had a similar take when talking to CBS LA about the controversial California law that allows ‘transgender’ students to compete on sports teams and use facilities that align with their so-called gender identity instead of their biological sex. He said the law is “right” and called the concerns about fairness and safety a “right-wing attempt to victimize and villainize already desperate people.”
CA Trans Insanity
The conversation is back in the spotlight days after ‘trans’ track star AB Hernandez topped multiple podiums over the weekend on his way to punching his ticket to the upcoming California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) state championship girls’ track meet for the second straight year.
“One of the most infamous ‘trans’ athletes competed in track and field. This is a boy who looks like a girl now because he is posing as one with long blonde hair,” Megyn noted on Tuesday’s Megyn Kelly Show. “It’s a boy, and he is crushing all these women in the high jump, the long jump, and the triple jump by several inches and several feet, depending on the event. No female is keeping up with him.”
Last year, Hernandez’s dominance – and President Donald Trump’s very public warning to Gov. Gavin Newsom – led CIF to quickly announce a new policy to allow “any biological female student-athlete who would have earned the next qualifying mark for one of their Section’s automatic qualifying entries in the CIF State meet, and did not achieve the CIF State at-large mark in the finals at their Section meet… an opportunity to participate in the 2025 CIF State Track and Field Championships.”
The rule also requires Hernandez and other ‘trans’ competitors to share their podium spots with the biological women who actually won. “The accommodation that Gavin Newsom has come up with for… the actual female athletes is… they can stand up there next to the boy posing as the girl and both get a first place medal,” Megyn explained. “It’s ridiculous. Get off of my riser, go to the boys’ event, and see if you can get yourself on the riser there. That is what these girls are clearly thinking.”
The Flawed Argument
On Tuesday’s show, Megyn was joined by National Review’s Rich Lowry and Charles C.W. Cooke to discuss Steyer’s flawed reasoning and what the statistics really show about so-called gender affirming care. Watch:
