‘The System Failed’: Megyn Reacts to Horrifying Murder of College Student Sheridan Gorman by Illegal Migrant

Unfortunately, I have to remind you once again of the deadly consequences of the Democrats’ far-left immigration policies. On The Megyn Kelly Show, we’ve told you about the senseless – and totally avoidable – murders of Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungaray, and Rachel Morin, who were all killed by illegal immigrants who should have never been in our country to begin with.

And now it’s happened again.

18-year-old Sheridan Gorman from Yorktown Heights, New York, was a first-year student at Loyola University in Chicago. She was off to live her life and get an education; it was the first step away from her parents. I understand this. I had my first job in Chicago after I finished law school at age 24. I was a little older than Sheridan, but I too went to Chicago as my first big step away from home. It seems like a relatively safe place, or at least it did back when I went. It is not as large as New York City. It is a little bit more navigable. It is also totally beautiful.

That lakefront is completely inviting and large parts of it are very safe. A lot of young people hang out there at all hours having a drink, or on their way home from the bars, or just at night when they want to take in Lake Michigan, which is absolutely stunning.

The Shooting

In fact, Sheridan went out with friends around 1am Thursday to take in the city’s skyline and have a look at the Northern Lights. That is according to her family.

Prosecutors say the group was walking near Chicago’s Tobey Prinz Beach when Gorman told her friends she saw someone hiding behind a lighthouse. That is when an armed man dressed in all black and wearing a mask emerged, causing the group to flee. The man fired his gun at the group, hitting Gorman in the back. The bullet exited from her neck, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police were able to track the suspect back to his apartment using surveillance footage. There, they recovered a .40 caliber handgun. A shell casing from the scene matched the gun.

What we have learned about the alleged shooter is all too common in the wake of Joe Biden’s disastrous open border policies that let millions of unvetted illegal immigrants into the United States. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), 25-year-old Jose Medina-Medina is an illegal immigrant from Venezuela.

DHS says Border Patrol apprehended Medina on May 9, 2023, but the Biden administration released him into the country. Medina was nabbed again on June 19, 2023 for shoplifting in Chicago. Once again, he was released.

Medina has been charged with first-degree murder and multiple other felonies, but he missed his first court date Monday because he has reportedly been hospitalized with tuberculosis.

Shove him into jail for the rest of his life or ship him back to Venezuela. I really don’t care. Sheridan is dead and she can’t be brought back. Her family is in massive amounts of pain and no guilty verdict, or deportation, or combination of the two is going to change that. How many other daughters have to die before we realize what Joe Biden did and the hard truths about what must be done to rectify it?

I am sick and tired of reporting on young American girls being killed by illegals. The system failed Sheridan Gorman and her family. There were so many opportunities to prevent this – Joe Biden closing the border, Democrats allowing President Trump to deport the illegals who had been let in here, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker allowing Trump to send help to prevent crime.

This should never have happened. Sheridan should be alive today, and Joe Biden and all the Democrats who supported his reckless open border have blood on their hands.

In a statement, Sheridan’s family said she was a devout Christian, a star bowler, and was extremely excited to begin studying business at Loyola last fall. “This is the loss of a daughter. The loss of a sister. The loss of a future filled with milestones that will now never come,” they wrote, in part. “Our family is forever changed.”

Sheridan’s mother Jessica told The New York Post they are focused on getting “justice for Sheridan,” but admitted they are “beyond shattered” by the loss. “When they say that your heart is broken or it feels like it’s ripped out of your chest, it’s real,” she said through tears. “It’s so real. I wouldn’t wish this upon anyone.”

It is just heartbreaking.

Democrat Reaction

But Democrats seem to be having a different reaction. Gov. Pritzker was silent on the killing until this X post yesterday: “Sheridan Gorman’s murder is a tragedy – and the person responsible must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. My deepest condolences to the family, friends, and Loyola University community grieving this devastating loss. May her memory be a blessing.”

No mention of the suspect’s immigration status there. Pritzker’s office also released a statement Monday that said, in part, “The Trump administration needs to stop politicizing heinous tragedies and instead focus on real solutions.”

Remember back in January Pritzker made an appearance at a memorial for Alex Pretti, the agitator killed by immigration enforcement in Minneapolis? Pritzker had no problem getting in front of a camera back then and calling for the firing of Trump administration officials because “killings took place.”

Chicago’s far-left Mayor Brandon Johnson was completely silent on Sheridan’s murder until a reporter forced him to answer a question about it during a Tuesday press briefing. His overdue comments similarly missed the mark.

But it is the alderwoman who represents the area where the shooting took place, Maria Hadden, who has made herself the villain in this story. Here is what she had to say during an interview with Fox 32 Chicago hours after the murder on March 19:

HADDEN: From what I’ve been told so far, right, from what police know from, from speaking to the students who are with her, it seems she might have– that as they were just out. You know, people go out to the beach all the time, right? And they go out on the pier. They walk around. So, the kids were out doing normal, normal things people do in the neighborhood. And it sounds like this might have been a wrong place, a wrong time running into a person who had a gun. They might have startled this person at the end of the pier unintentionally, but that’s, that’s all we know. So, from what I’ve been told, what police investigation has turned up so far, what they’ve been able to share with me and with Loyola University, we don’t believe there is cause for broader community concern.

Some actual concern over Sheridan Gorman would be nice, madam. What is she saying? She may have “startled” the man? You mean the illegal immigrant who was there with a mask on, who chased her and shot her from behind? She completely recast what happened as just an accidental startling, leaving out, of course, that this was an illegal to begin with.

What Hadden said was so outrageous that even the Chicago press is calling for clarification, but she has apparently gone totally dark. Her office is not responding. Get out there and do better, ma’am.

A Heartbreaking Connection

We were planning on leading with this story on The Megyn Kelly Show today and were prepping for it all morning. But about a half an hour before we went to air, something heartbreaking happened. We received an email to our show account that took my breath away. It was from a friend of Sheridan Gorman’s mother Jessica.

As it turns out, Jessica went to my tour stop in Westchester this past fall. Her friend Stacey sent along some photos of her with Jessica and Jessica’s twin sister. They were all decked out in red, white, and blue. So much pride in this nation and all that it could offer them.

I am so sorry, Jessica. I am sorry this happened to your daughter and your family. I am sorry the Democrat Party did not protect beautiful Sheridan.

I promise to do what Stacey asked us to do in her email, which is to use this platform to help you get justice for your daughter, to do what we can to make sure no one else’s child is taken too soon by someone who has no right to be here, and to hold the politicians accountable who caused it and minimize it and, therefore, set another person up for disaster in the United States.
