Since returning from space last spring, pop star Katy Perry has been jet-setting to Davos and beyond with her boyfriend, former Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau. But she found time in her very busy schedule to urge her more than 200 million Instagram followers to contact their U.S. senator and demand they block funding for U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE).
Perry’s Post
Earlier this week, the “I Kissed a Girl” singer posted a step-by-step guide on Instagram – complete with a pre-written script – and encouraged her fans to “turn anger into action.” Perry’s plea comes as Senate Democrats consider blocking a House-passed bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security in the wake of the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in Minnesota. Such a move could result in another government shutdown.
In the script Perry shared, callers are told to demand their senator “filibuster the upcoming Homeland Security appropriations bill” because they are “sick of watching lawful citizens and noncitizens being arrested at their jobs, assaulted at peaceful protests, pulled out of their vehicles, blinded by munitions, and getting shot and killed by ICE.”
In reality, Republicans have said the DHS funding bill has very little to do with ICE, which received $70 billion last year from President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill. Instead, the overwhelming majority of this money is earmarked for FEMA, TSA, and more.
Megyn’s Take
But Perry doesn’t seem particularly interested in the particulars, and Megyn said this is yet another example of her hypocrisy. On Wednesday’s show, she called out the songstress for her insincere activism. Below is her take, edited for length and clarity:
“Katy Perry is urging her fans, saying, ‘We have til Friday, January 30, to block $10 billion from going through to ICE.’ This is back to the attempt to stop the spending provisions from going through. This has already been negotiated, and now these Democrats are talking about trying to stop it… ICE is still going to get its funding, but they are trying to stop the latest tranche so that ICE agents won’t get paid. Katy Perry is going to get paid. She will have no trouble whatsoever cashing her checks.
She also doesn’t care about Minneapolis children who are going to be brutalized by pedophiles who are illegals. She is fine with that, apparently, otherwise she wouldn’t be opposing ICE getting paid. Katy Perry is constantly leading the life of a hypocrite. She absolutely doesn’t actually care about the children of America because she would have stood up for the ones who are being brutalized by illegals. She only cares about the illegals because I think she thinks that is popular on her side.
But here’s another thing: She is supposed to be some sort of environmental activist, which I didn’t know. You tell me whether what she did in space is or is not environmentally friendly. How much carbon expenditures happened there so that she could float in space for a few minutes? The combustion emissions from rocket launchers affect both the climate and the stratospheric ozone layer, says Sustainability Magazine.
And it is not just that. She showed up at Davos because they always do climate change at Davos and she wants us all to know that we should do as she says, not as she does.
She was filmed walking around Davos with one of Justin Trudeau’s bodyguards, who was holding her arm to combat the very evil Rebel News, which is our favorite outlet up in Canada, and Ezra Levant, who does great reporting for them.
Katy Perry was very, very happy to have her life guarded by a team of security professionals. But she apparently does not want little children who will be attacked or raped and abused by these illegals to have the same protections. So, the hypocrisy abounds.”
