Every major TV network offered live coverage of President Donald Trump posthumously awarding Charlie Kirk with the nation’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, on Tuesday – except one.
MSNBC did not break from its regularly scheduled programming to carry the Rose Garden ceremony. Instead, host Nicolle Wallace briefly mentioned the event at the close of her show just before 5pm ET.
On Wednesday’s program, Megyn was joined by Turning Point USA contributor Jack Posobiec to discuss the scheduling decision.
Counter Programming
If you tuned into MSNBC on Tuesday, you would have had no idea what was happening at the White House save for a terse overview from Wallace at the bottom of the hour.
“Before we go, we want to show you what’s happening right now at the White House. Donald Trump awarding conservative activist Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor,” Wallace said in the final moments of her show. “Tomorrow marks exactly five weeks since Kirk was fatally shot while speaking at a university in Utah today. His wife, Erika Kirk, accepts the award on his behalf. Today also would have been Charlie Kirk’s 32nd birthday.”
As she spoke, the network briefly showed the president delivering remarks from the Rose Garden without audio.
“MSNBC apparently thought its viewers wanted to hear Nicolle Wallace jabber on instead of witnessing a historic event,” Megyn said. “It was a refusal to even acknowledge Charlie because they couldn’t broadcast President Trump’s words about what he actually did or Erica Kirk’s words about what her husband stood for.”
As Megyn explained, what viewers would have heard from Trump and Kirk stands in sharp contrast to how the network has characterized the late Turning Point USA founder. “There was no excuse not to show the event other than their own inhumanity and refusal to show truth to their audience,” she said. “It would put the lie to everything they have been saying about Charlie and Turning Point, for that matter, and they just couldn’t do it.”
“It is important to them to continue misleading some faction of the left into thinking Charlie was the devil incarnate,” Megyn added. “So, they really can’t have you looking at Erika Kirk or seeing a charming, empathetic, loving Donald Trump honor his friend. It’s a hard no.”
Doubling Down
Posobiec said it speaks to the leftist worldview. “Their entire structure is built on this inverted hierarchy of victimhood whereby all of society is controlled by the victimization,” he noted. “Women are victimized, minorities are victimized, and white, Christian males… like Charlie Kirk… [who was] literally married to a beauty queen… incredible children, incredible families, successful by every metric… must be the enemy. And so you can’t ever allow anyone like that to look sympathetic… because… it would, in fact, repudiate everything that they stand for.”
While MSNBC might be “doubling down” on the false narratives about Kirk and mission, Megyn noted it is seemingly only amplifying his message. “Charlie’s podcast has been number one on the podcast charts since he died… His books have all shot up to the top of the charts… [Some] 122,000-plus young people [reached out about] new chapters of Turning Point on high school and college campuses,” she said. “There is a desperate thirst for more of Charlie right now, and thank God there are hours and hours and hours of tape of Charlie.”
“It is just so encouraging to see,” she concluded. “And I do think that is why MSNBC had to go dark on it. They feel very threatened by this.”
