‘A Tipping Point’: Megyn Explains Why We Must Watch the Full Charlotte Stabbing Video Despite the Horror

It is a video that normally you wouldn’t see on camera on a show like this or any other because it is disturbing and it is of an innocent woman being murdered. Our typical approach in the media is you don’t show the actual moment of someone’s death. It is an unwritten guideline that we all follow, but we here at The Megyn Kelly Show chose not to follow it today for good reason.

I am sick of this sh-t. Everyone has to look at this. You have to. I have to. No one wants to view this, but we must because it is intentionally being kept hidden from us. And it is not just in this case. What is happening in this country has been hidden from us by people in law enforcement – specifically, district attorneys and weak judges – politicians, and media that would love to show us George Floyd under the knee of Derek Chauvin all day long on loop but want to totally ignore the story of 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska, who was here from Ukraine for a better life.

They don’t want to show you how inhumane her murder was because she was white and her killer was black. He has to be protected, you see, because he is a black man. This is ridiculous. No sane black American would think it is racist to show this video simply because the perpetrator was black. Only racist lunatics on the left and in our media walk away with that conclusion. That is a leftist narrative that is untrue, and they are all bowing to it right now and trying to avoid discussing this case altogether. They are desperate to avoid discussing it.

‘A Tipping Point’

The raw video was released to local news outlets on Friday, but none of those stations made it available to the public. The full video of one angle of the attack was instead released by Headline USA, a news outlet out of Charlotte, North Carolina. The outlet said it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request and received the full raw video. The outlet did blur the actual stabbing out of respect for the family. There is nothing wrong with that. It is a decision.

I saw the video on X yesterday, and I am still so jarred by it. As I said on AM Update this morning, it is not exactly because of the gore or the inhumanity of the stabbing. That is there and affecting the viewer. But it is because of her that it is so awful. It is because this young girl came here for a better life. She was 23. She had everything in front of her. She didn’t mooch off the system. She didn’t sit like a barnacle collecting other people’s tax money. She got a job at a pizzeria. She volunteered to help animals. She didn’t have a glamorous life. She was in her little uniform, no makeup, just trying to get from A to B.

After she was attacked and killed, she had maybe 60 seconds of life left in her. And you see it. You see her struggling to understand what just happened to her. The most disturbing part is her confusion. It is clear she doesn’t know what just happened to her. I don’t remember feeling this way watching another video, which is why we have to watch it. We have to show it, and we have to discuss it.

I am telling you, this is a tipping point. This is the official end to the BLM madness that infected our criminal justice system, that took hold of it and still has hold of it in terms of the way we approach, yes, policing, but – more importantly, arguably – who we put on the bench, the policies that we asked them to pursue, the infection of DEI at every level of the criminal justice system, these weak-kneed judges, politicians, magistrate judges, like the one here, who know they have a mentally deranged, dangerous lunatic standing before them and don’t even have the balls to make them remain custodial in jail pending the trial of the charges before them. Nevermind to work to institutionalize them, to do some hardhanded referral to an institution where they could actually be committed, which is next to impossible in the United States of America.

The Video

We aired the video on The Megyn Kelly Show, and you can watch it above. There was zero interaction between 34 year old suspect Decarlos Dejuan Brown Jr. and Iryna Zarutska before he began stabbing her. Brown stood up and immediately began plunging the knife into her neck and upper body. He struck her three times, at least once in the neck. She looks up at him in utter shock, fear, and terror after the attack. She sits cowering with her knees pulled in a defensive position.

There is a moment where she covers her mouth, she covers her eyes, she looks at the other passengers, she looks down at her own body seemingly to check where she was injured. She doesn’t realize yet that her injuries are so catastrophic she is about to die from them.

Brown walks over to the door and then, for a split second, walks back over near her. She sits there for several seconds with her hand over her mouth. You don’t hear her scream. Maybe because she couldn’t. She slumped over to her left side in the adjacent empty seat, and then her body appeared to crumble onto the floor.

From the time Zarutska slumped over to the time the first bystander began to help her was about a minute and 20 seconds. One minute and 20 seconds. One man, who was sitting in a seat behind Brown got up and walked over, but he did not bend down to help her. You see a woman who is seated across the aisle from Zarutska. She got up, but did not bend down to help at all. Another man walked up and pointed at Zarutska, but he did not offer help.

A minute and 20 seconds is a painfully long time when you watch the video. You do not understand why they are not helping her. The only thing I can hope is that they were confused and they didn’t realize what had happened. But soon the blood began pouring out of this poor girl, and it is really hard to understand how there was not a mass reaction on board that train.

Finally, a man in a green shirt appeared. He got down on the ground and began helping her. He worked on her alone for several minutes, while also calling 911. It is unclear whether others had already called for help. At one point, a young woman does rush in to help the man in the green shirt. He eventually took off his shirt and seemed to use it to try to stop the bleeding. At times, they are seen caressing her face. A short time later, another man rushed in to help.

None of these people were sitting near Zarutska when the attack happened. Those people appear to have bailed. These are folks who rushed in to help when they realized something was wrong. The video appears to show the man in the green shirt find Zarutska’s ID and show it to the other two. We don’t know for sure, but, as parents, we can only hope someone was calling her by her name. Maybe someone said, ‘Iryna, you’ll be okay. We’re here.’ And maybe that comforted her in her final moments here on earth. When she looked for help, in the end, people did care enough to know her name.

The Reaction

But those weren’t the people who could have prevented this death. The people who could have prevented this death are the politicians. The governor of North Carolina, the local DA, the mayor, the magistrate judge, the district court judge who allowed this guy back on the street when they knew he was mentally unwell and dangerous. They knew both of those things the media won’t talk to you about.

If you watch CNN, you are going to hear he was mentally ill. Van Jones literally said, “Hurt people hurt people.” What in the actual eff? He was mentally ill. He had schizophrenia, and he was dangerous. Not everyone who is mentally ill is dangerous. But there is a significant faction of the mentally ill who are also dangerous. This guy was at the top of the list, and they just kept revolving door-ing him right back out to an unsuspecting public.

This was not only not surprising, it was bound to happen and it’s bound to happen in your city too. And it is happening in your city. You don’t hear about it because the media won’t discuss it for all sorts of reasons. Do you have any doubt that this story would be getting shoved down your throat? Just imagine if that perpetrator had been a white, 34-year-old male killing a cowering black young woman on her way home from her pizzeria job. This story would be leading the news everywhere. We would be having riots in the street.

Think of how many days the George Floyd story dominated the news, and he was a derelict career criminal too. Everybody in the country knows the name of Kilmar Abrego Garcia – the “Maryland man” who has a very long list of accusations against him, including being a wife beater and trafficker of illegals. Everyone knows his name.

But Iryna Zarutska? The story is not even on the homepage of The New York Times or The Washington Post. They are apparently not really interested when white people get killed by black people. It doesn’t fit the narrative.

What Comes Next

Look, this is the official end of the Black Lives Matter mania. And it has to end.

It has to be reversed policy-wise and legally, and that is going to require accountability. That is going to require the people who got us into this mess to say they are sorry and undo it. It is going to require an actual finger pointing by those of us who have been keeping the receipts when it comes to those who got us into this mess because not everybody went along. There were many of us who stood up at the time and said, ‘This is insanity. We are being told lies.’
