As the tell-all books about what went wrong in for the Biden campaign and what was really going on in the White House during his presidency start hitting shelves, some former staffers are claiming – or is it feigning? – ignorance.
Count White House Press Secretary-turned-MSNBC primetime host Jen Psaki as one of the senior officials who can’t recall seeing any signs of cognitive decline from the octogenarian, and she has a real issue with anyone suggesting there was a cover-up of his condition.
On Tuesday’s show, Megyn was joined by Stu Burguiere, host of BlazeTV’s Stu Does America, to discuss Psaki’s unbelievable claims and how the media was complicit.
Psaki’s Claim
During an appearance on Semafor’s Mixed Signals podcast that dropped Friday, Psaki insisted she “never saw” signs of the former president’s diminishing mental acuity during her time in the White House.
“I never saw that person – not a single time, and I was in the Oval Office every day – that was on that debate stage,” Psaki said in reference Biden’s disastrous June 2024 debate performance.
She did, however, couch the claim. “I’m not a doctor,” she continued. “Aging happens quite quickly. Were things that people saw during that period of time that were similar to that or would have been in a category of that? I don’t know. Possibly.”
In an effort to present “the facts,” Psaki also explained that she left the Biden administration in May 2022 and only saw her former boss in person one time after that. She said the face-to-face meeting came when she took her daughter to the White House Christmas Party in December 2024 (i.e. after the election).
As for suggestions that the Biden team was actively covering for the president’s infirmities, Psaki took great offense to the notion. “‘Cover-up’ is a very loaded term,” she said. “‘Cover-up’ is often, like, a crime… People use that term as they relate to Watergate or the covering up of not sharing public information about a war.” She called the term “dangerous.”
The Receipts
While Psaki may want people to believe she was shocked by Biden’s debate performance, the record suggests otherwise. In addition to the fact that she went on to cover the White House from her perch at MSNBC, there were notable lapses from Biden before she left the administration.
“We put together a list of the… more popular ones prior to her departure. They included him slipping over and over again while trying to walk up Air Force One, getting lost on his way back to the White House, referring to Vice President Kamala Harris as president and first lady, confusing the immigration policy Title 42 with the mask mandate, losing his train of thought and slurring during key remarks,” Megyn noted. “And it was not just his stutter because then we could play the sound bite where he forgot the word ‘Pentagon’ and the name Lloyd Austin as his defense secretary… All of that was prior to her departure.”
Three months after Psaki’s departure, Biden infamously called for deceased Congresswoman Jackie Walorski at an event even though he had just watched a tribute video in her honor. But none of that apparently raised alarm bells. “All of us saw it just on the little box that we call the TV or the computer, and were able to see that there was a problem,” Megyn added. “But Jen Psaki is not a doctor, so she just couldn’t do it.”
The Cover-Up
It also seems as though Psaki can’t bear the thought of having any association with one of the most egregious political cover-ups in history. “Well, then you shouldn’t have done it that… It is an obvious lie that she didn’t know about Biden’s mental decline while she was working for him… I don’t believe one word,” Megyn said. “And when she left the White House, she went to MSNBC and got her own show where she could report on everything… So, she has nowhere to go. No wonder she is worried about the use of the term ‘cover-up.'”
Burguiere said the term cover-up “is completely legitimate” in this scenario. And while people may say the cover-up is worse than the crime, he believes nothing is off the table in this situation. “I think it’s very likely that criminal behavior actually occurred in this particular incident, and it is a massively serious one that we can’t just blow off,” he said. “We have to look into this, so this cannot happen [again].”
In his view, Psaki’s rise at MSNBC illustrates the state of media today. “What’s hilarious is [Psaki] had daily insight on this guy… behind the scenes… missed it every step of the way, then went to MSNBC, got her own show, watched every single one of his interviews, every single one of his speeches, and still couldn’t pick it up that entire time all the way until the debate stage,” he noted. “And what does MSNBC do? Promote her… They gave her a better time slot and probably more money.”
“That perfectly encapsulates the media right now,” he continued. “If you just sit there, and soak it up, and toe the line, and go on television and say, ‘I didn’t see the most obvious thing in the entire world,’ and embarrass yourself like that, congratulations. You’ve been promoted.”
Megyn said the complicity is clear. “Welcome to the Democrat Party and MSNBC – but I repeat myself,” she concluded. “It is unbelievable. She is not fooling anybody. Good for [host] Ben Smith for raising those questions.”
