The books about what went wrong for – and what was wrong with – Joe Biden are starting to hit shelves, which is putting the spotlight back on those around the former president.
The question: Who knew what when? But honest answers seem to be hard to come by. Former Biden Chief of Staff Ron Klain has had to answer for his delayed disclosures, as has George Clooney. And just this week, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) bobbed and weaved on a podcast after she was asked if she regretted her full-throated defense of Biden’s mental acuity.
On Friday’s show, Megyn was joined by Mark Halperin, host of Next Up with Mark Halperin, to discuss Warren’s awkward sidestepping and the collusion between the media and Democrats to cover up for Biden.
Warren Pressed
During an interview on Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso that dropped Sunday, Warren was pressed on how she spoke about Biden’s fitness for office while he was president. Fragoso asked the senator if she had any “regret” over defending the octogenarian.
“I said what I believed to be true,” Warren said.
“You think he was as sharp as you?” Fragoso asked.
“I said I had not seen decline, and I hadn’t, at that point,” she responded.
But Fragoso didn’t let her off the hook. “You did not see any decline from 2024 Joe Biden to 2021 Joe Biden?” he questioned.
“Not when I said that, you know, the thing is, he — look, he was sharp, he was on his feet,” Warren claimed. “I saw him, live event. I had meetings with him a couple of times.”
Again, Fragoso wasn’t having it. “Senator, ‘on his feet’ is not praise,” he retorted. “‘He can speak in sentences,’ is not praise.”
At that point, Warren seemed resigned to agree. “All right, fair enough, fair enough,” she replied.
Megyn praised Fragoso for not backing down. “Good for you, Sam Fragoso, for asking the questions,” she said. “At one point she says, ‘I said what I believed’ and kind of cocked her head to the side and raised her eyebrows, like, ‘Got it.’ And he did exactly the same head cock back at her like, ‘Let’s go, lady, I’ve got you.'”
The ‘Biggest Sham’
Most of the media was all but silent during Biden’s four years in office about his deteriorating state. That briefly changed in the wake of the disastrous June 2024 CNN debate, and now the gloves appear to be off. “The stories are leaking out left and right now about how mentally infirm he was and how hard the left worked to cover it up,” Megyn noted. “There are like four or five books coming out now on this particular subject, and even lefties are asking lefty lawmakers about it.”
Halperin said this is a black eye of historic proportions for the press. “This is the biggest sham in the history of the media because you don’t need to say, ‘Elizabeth Warren, did you see this in some private meeting?’ Watch C-SPAN. He spoke to a dead congresswoman [Rep. Jackie Walorski],” he explained. “The question is: Why did you participate in a conspiracy of silence with the media and the bullies of the Biden team to deny what we could all see with our own eyes?”
In his view, it warrants an investigation. “This needs a serious investigation – not necessarily to punish the media and the people in the Biden White House, although they deserve to be punished – but to understand how it could happen and to make sure it doesn’t happen again,” Halperin said. “Because what happened was a guy who was showing mental decline in 2017 – I saw it with my own eyes – was allowed to be protected by his family, his aides, and the White House press corps.”
Trust in media is already at an all-time low, and Halperin said this only further erodes it. “The same White House press corps organizations and, in many cases, the same people now covering Donald Trump participated in the cover up of Joe Biden with the express intent of not helping Donald Trump,” he noted. “So, I find this to be just appalling.”
As it relates to the Democratic Party, Halperin said Warren is likely the first of many who will have to answer for her past. “I look forward to more instances where people are asked to be held accountable,” he concluded. “She shouldn’t be able to get away with saying ‘I never saw it’ because she did. Of course she saw it because, of course, she sees C-SPAN.”
