Harrison Ford starred in one of the more memorable commercials of Super Bowl LIX. He fronted a patriotic ad for Jeep that focused on freedom and paid tribute to the servicemen and women who protect it.
On Monday’s show, Megyn was joined by the hosts of The Daily Wire’s Crain & Company – Blain Crain, Jake Crain, and David Cone – who declared the commercial their favorite of the night thanks in no small part to the enduring ‘cool’ factor of Ford. They know him and love him as Han Solo in Star Wars, but Megyn had a different reference for the Hollywood icon.
“Harrison Ford is still really cool… Everybody loves him from Star Wars. But to be perfectly honest, for a woman, it’s the Working Girl character that he played. There has never been anybody cuter,” Megyn said. “He’s got this great combination of being, like, relatable, but also very sexy.”
And that’s not all. The commercial got Megyn thinking about other movies Ford was in, including his role in the 1990 film adaptation of Scott Turow’s bestselling mystery novel Presumed Innocent. And she had a PSA for fans of Turow who are looking for something to watch and read.
Megyn’s Recommendations
“Everybody saw the movie Presumed Innocent or read the book by Scott Turow, right? If you haven’t, please do both. The movie came out years and years ago and starred Harrison Ford as an embattled prosecutor who winds up accused in the death of his mistress. It is just an amazing, well-written, well done book and movie.
Last summer, AppleTV+ released a six-episode series called Presumed Innocent starring Jake Gyllenhaal. This one was created by David E. Kelley, the guy who wrote The Practice and Big Little Lies. He is one of our best television writers, and it was really well done. He went way off book but also came up with a bunch of clever twists. My whole family enjoyed it – we were on the edge of our seats the whole six episodes.
Back to the books, Scott Turow just dropped a second sequel to Presumed Innocent, and it is called Presumed Guilty. I personally like to listen to my books. I don’t really read them. I read so much for the show that I like to spare my eyes.
Well, I love the audiobook of Presumed Guilty. It is narrated by Grover Gardner, and he sounds like a guy who maybe is kind of WASPY, drinks Scotch at night, and is just sick of the bullsh-t. That’s how he sounds to me. He is just sort of a no-nonsense dude.
Scott Turow is a Democrat. He is not woke, but there is a little touch of those messages in there. I don’t care. I think he is brilliant. I really, really enjoyed it, and I think you might enjoy it too.
Presumed Guilty got me on a Scott Turow path. I didn’t realize he wrote a sequel to Presumed Innocent in 2010, called Innocent. It involves all the same characters as the first book, and I am listening to that audiobook right now. I cannot put it down. It is so good. I don’t know how it is going to end, so bear with me. But if you like legal thrillers as I do, then I think you will really enjoy this.
Scott Turow, thank you for the hours and hours of entertainment. For what it’s worth, when I picture Rusty Sabich – the protagonist of all of these books – in my head, I picture Harrison Ford and it just makes me love him even more.”
