File this under: things we wish we didn’t know.
According to a new book, President Joe Biden regularly tells his staff that the key to a happy marriage is “good sex” and has bragged about his own sex life.
On Monday’s show, Megyn was joined by Emily Jashinsky, culture editor at The Federalist, and Eliana Johnson, co-host of Ink-Stained Wretches, to discuss Biden’s NSFW disclosures and why they could actually come in handy on the campaign trail.
Biden’s Sex Life
There is a new book coming out this week by New York Times White House correspondent Katie Rogers called American Woman: The Transformation of the Modern First Lady, From Hillary Clinton to Jill Biden that claims to be “the first to paint a full picture of Jill Biden while exploring how she helps answer the evolving question of what the role of the modern First Lady should be.”
As part of that, we apparently get a deep dive into some of her husband’s proclivities between the sheets. “Much to his wife’s chagrin,” Rogers writes, the 81 year old is reportedly fond of telling aides in the West Wing that the key to a successful marriage is “good sex.”
He also reportedly shared with a group of supporters back in 2006 that he’d “rather be home making love to my wife while my children are asleep.” That led a spokesperson to say the then-senator was “frankly totally in love with his wife.”
While Rogers notes that Biden has “tamped down on his public bedroom declarations” since winning the presidency in 2020, he once gushed “about the sexual and emotional connection he and [first wife] Neilia shared.”
In the aftermath of her death, Biden told Washingtonian magazine in a 1974 interview that “she had the best body of any woman I ever saw” and said “she looks better than a Playboy bunny.”
He also divulged intimate details of their relationship. “At first she stayed at home with the kids while I campaigned, but that didn’t work out because I’d come back too tired to talk to her,” he said. “I might satisfy her in bed but I didn’t have much time for anything else.”
Ultimately, Biden told journalist Kitty Kelley that he was “not a womanizer,” but he wanted “to find a woman to adore me again.”
‘Joe Biden: Healthy Enough for Sex’
Megyn, for one, could not believe what she was reading. “I just threw up a little in my mouth,” she joked. “What is happening here? Why was this told?”
Perhaps, Johnson speculated, this is part of a larger strategy from the Biden team. “Every time Biden has a verbal flub or falls down on the stage, all the aides come out to tell us, like, ‘Are you serious? This guy has way more energy than I do. I can’t keep up with him. He’s the youngest 81 year old I’ve ever seen,'” she noted. “I just really feel like this is part of that. It’s like, ‘What do you mean? He has more sex than I do. He’s so young. He’s hornier than my 19 year old.'”
While Jashinsky found the story horrifying, she agreed that there could be a future for this narrative. “‘Joe Biden, healthy enough for sex,'” she concluded. “That’s his new campaign slogan.”
