We learn something new about President Joe Biden’s potential involvement in his family’s overseas business dealings on a daily basis at this point. Late last month, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) floated the idea of launching an impeachment inquiry into the president, and new reporting indicates a real push could come this fall. But it doesn’t seem like the Republican Party as a whole is necessarily on board.
On Thursday’s show, Megyn was joined by Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) to discuss the latest allegations against the First Family and the likelihood of President Biden facing impeachment.
The Latest Allegations
On Wednesday, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) released a third bank records memorandum that shows new information obtained during the committee’s investigation into the Biden family’s alleged influence peddling schemes. There were a few key highlights, including a new tally of how much the Bidens and their associates have raked in from foreign partners and potential special treatment a Russian oligarch’s wife has received.
According to the report, the House Oversight Committee has now identified over $20 million in payments to the Biden family members and business partners from foreign entities in Russia, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine that occurred during Joe Biden’s tenure as vice president. This is similar to the $17 million figure previously shared by IRS whistleblowers.
Additionally, we are learning more about an ongoing situation involving Russian billionaire Yelena Baturina. Baturina is the wife of the late Yuriy Luzhkov, who served as mayor of Moscow from 1992 to 2010. In February 2014, she allegedly transferred $3.5 million to Rosemont Seneca Thornton, a shell company associated with Hunter Biden and his former business partner Devon Archer.
After Russia annexed Crimea that same month, Baturina managed to escape the sanctions imposed on Russian officials and businessmen connected to President Vladimir Putin by then-President Barack Obama.
Fast forward to 2022 and the former First Lady of Moscow once again avoided the even broader sanctions handed down by the Biden administration against Russian individuals and entities in the wake of the start of the Russia-Ukraine war. “That was a full dragnet he laid down on the Russian oligarchs after they invaded Ukraine,” Megyn said. “But not this lady who had given his son $3.5 million. And while we don’t have proof Biden cashed any of those checks, we do have the Hunter laptop talking about how 10 percent goes to ‘the big guy.'”
Is Biden’s Behavior an Impeachable Offense?
As the GOP reportedly moves closer to launching an impeachment inquiry into President Biden, many are questioning whether potential misconduct that occurred while he was the vice president can lead to his impeachment as the sitting president.
Rep. Hunt said that is why further investigations are needed. “I would like to think that this just didn’t stop when he was the vice president; I would like to think that, over the course of the past few years, this behavior has continued,” he said. “And I think if we just look a little bit deeper, we’re going to find even more nefarious dealings with Joe Biden while he was the current president of these United States of America.”
But even based on what he knows so far, Rep. Hunt said he would be “a strong yes” if articles of impeachment were brought to the House floor. “He has earned impeachment and, at some point, we as a country have got to look at this corrupt administration, this corrupt Biden family, and… say… enough is enough.”
There is at least one prominent GOP voice who is opposed to the Biden impeachment chatter. Earlier this week, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) told the New York Times that his position on impeachment is the same as it was during the Trump years:
“I said two years ago, when we had not one but two impeachments, that once we go down this path it incentivizes the other side to do the same thing. Impeachment ought to be rare. This is not good for the country.”

On some level, Rep. Hunt understands Sen. McConnell’s position. “It may not be in our best interest politically and it might not be in our best interest, as Leader McConnell was saying, to continue to divide the country,” he admitted.
But he still sees the value of the impeachment inquiry process. “If this is not about actually introducing articles of impeachment, okay, that’s fine,” Rep. Hunt said. “It’s up to us in the halls of Congress to make sure that the American people are well aware of what this president has done… and well aware of his son’s actions… to make sure that we decide very, very cautiously and very, very carefully in 2024.”
Ultimately, he believes it is Congress’ job to continue to unearth “smoking guns” and “receipts” to turn over to the U.S. electorate and say: “Now you know everything about the Biden family. Please choose wisely.”
