If it seems like certain segments of the left can racialize just about anything these days, this latest example proves absolutely nothing is off limits.
Earlier this week, video circulated of a Democrat U.S. representative from Oregon deriding the Trump administration’s focus on improving nutrition and ending the chronic disease epidemic by, among other things, a return to offering whole milk to students in school. She called the push to serve the drink – wait for it – “white supremacy dog-whistling.”
On Thursday’s show, Megyn was joined by commentator Amala Ekpunobi to discuss the absurd logic and remark.
The Comment
Rep. Maxine Dexter (D-OR) held a town hall event at a local middle school over the weekend where she sounded off on everything from immigration enforcement to, yes, whole milk. The freshman congresswoman calls herself a “pragmatic progressive,” but her remarks were light on the pragmatic.
Speaking about immigration enforcement, Fox News reported Dexter compared U.S. immigration law to “terrorism” and promised to dismantle Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) if Democrats regain control of government. “I’m not supposed to get political, but if there’s a change in political will, then we can absolutely dismantle and abolish ICE altogether,” she said.
And then there was her bizarre claim about full-fat dairy, which was clipped and reposted for the world to see by RNC Research on X. Watch:
“Please ask for the science-based regimens, not whatever RFK Jr. is getting kickbacks on or whatever whole milk white supremacy dog-whistling that’s happening right now,” Dexter said before once again admitting she was “getting a little too political.”
Remarkably, Dexter is a graduate of the University of Washington School of Medicine and, according to her official bio, practiced medicine for over 15 years as a lung and critical care physician before getting into politics. She was appointed to serve in the Oregon House of Representatives in 2020, where she was “focused on healthcare and meeting the basic needs of Oregonians,” and was elected to Congress in 2024.
The Law
Despite her background and interest in public health, Dexter is apparently no fan of the “Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act,” which is the bipartisan bill President Donald Trump signed into law last month.
This bill revises requirements for milk provided by the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) of the Department of Agriculture (USDA). Schools participating in the program were required to provide milk consistent with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Since the 2011-2012 school year, that meant fat-free or low-fat dairy in flavored and unflavored options.
According to the USDA, the law modifies these restrictions so that schools participating in the NSLP can offer whole, reduced-fat (2 percent), low-fat (1 percent), and fat-free (skim) flavored and unflavored milk. The milk that is offered may be organic or nonorganic.
The updated policy makes the school lunch program more aligned to the “Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2025-2030” unveiled by Secretary Health and Human Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in January. The new food pyramid flips the old one on its head to prioritize nutrient-rich meats, dairy, and healthy fats and minimize grains and ultra-processed offerings.
The Absurdity
Ekpunobi joked that she has been drinking whole milk and hasn’t turned into a white supremacist, but she said claims like Dexter’s aren’t that surprising anymore. “We’ve heard the left say before that things like working out… being on time, being polite… having a nuclear family… are white supremacy,” she said. “You could go through a list of just about anything, throw it at a leftist, and I think they would find some way to make it racist, to make it something that is indicative of you being a member of the KKK.”
Meanwhile, they will gloss over actual problems. “They’ll ignore the glaring issues that exist in our society – our childhood obesity rate [or] the fact that kids are lacking in vitamins and nutrients that they can get from whole milk,” Ekpunobi added. “Can we focus on the issue, or do we have to make everything about white supremacy?”
Megyn agreed. “There is a rot, and that is why they see racism in everything. They see bigotry in everything… [This is just] the latest finding of racism where it doesn’t exist,” she concluded. “And truly, like, pay attention. We’ve redone the food pyramid. We are not looking at saturated fat the way we used to. Just do a little reading, madam.”
