In what was quite possibly a first for The Megyn Kelly Show, Megyn played a clip from Joy Reid’s podcast so that she could praise the former MSNBC host for her surprising but welcomed take on the issue of men in women’s spaces.
In the wake of Grammy-nominated artist Tish Hyman’s viral videos confronting a biological male in the women’s locker room at her California gym, Reid admitted that she too would “be disturbed” if she saw a “penis in the ladies’ locker room.”
On Wednesday’s show, Megyn was joined by Andrew Kolvet and Blake Neff, producers of The Charlie Kirk Show, to discuss Reid’s remarks and why they represent a “watershed moment.”
Reid Defends Women
Earlier this month, Hyman posted a series of videos on social media in which she accused the Beverly Center Gold’s Gym of revoking her membership after she complained multiple times about a ‘transgender woman’ using the women’s facilities and “harassing” female gym goers.
The person in question has since been identified as Alexis Black, a man formerly known as Grant Freeman who identifies as a ‘transgender woman’ and was convicted of assaulting his now-ex-wife while living in Ohio before beginning his ‘transition.’ The New York Post reported that Black pleaded guilty in 2022 to beating his then-wife in an attack that caused a compound jaw fracture among other injuries.
In an episode of the Reid This Reid That podcast released Sunday, Reid’s co-host, Jacque Reid, laid out Hyman’s situation and asked her to react to the controversy. Reid recalled that during her time using the gym at the MSNBC offices, she was often uncomfortable seeing biological women naked – never mind if that had been a biological man.
“There would be women walking around… with their boobies dangling, swinging in the breeze… and they want to walk up and have a conversation with you,” she recounted. “And I’m like, ‘Don’t walk up to me with no clothes on and talk to me. I don’t want to talk to you.’ Because I am going to see you later in the hallway and be like, ‘Ew, I’ve seen your whole naked ass body.'”
Reid said she would be even more “alarmed” if that person approaching her had male genitalia. “So, to me, I would be disturbed. I’m telling you, I would be alarmed,” she acknowledged. “I’m alarmed enough when I see a woman with her dangling boobies. If I saw a penis in the ladies locker room, I would freak out too.”
“This is nothing against trans anybody,” Reid clarified. “What it’s saying is if I turn around and see a pee pee, a penis in front of me inside of the room, I would probably go to management and say, ‘Wait a minute. Why is there somebody – a naked man – in this room?'”
She said women have the right to be concerned for their safety. “The world we live in, just from a safety standpoint… from a privacy standpoint… I can see why she would have gone and reported to management,” Reid noted. “Now, if they clarified and they said, ‘Well, trans.’ Okay. But I think they should take her concerns also seriously. Because if she’s uncomfortable, does she not have the right to be at least uncomfortable with the situation?”
Her co-host agreed that Hyman “had every right to be upset” and admitted she also doesn’t want to see male genitalia in women’s locker rooms, even though she supports trans rights.
‘We Should Applaud Her‘
Megyn said the time has come for her to “actually have something nice to say” about Reid. “I don’t want to overstate it, but this is kind of a watershed moment,” she said. “It actually is very important to have somebody who is such a committed, far-left person come out and start standing up for women’s rights against these trannies who are invading our locker rooms, and our bathrooms, and so on.”
While Neff said he generally finds Reid to be a “really, really detestable race baiter,” he admitted he is also “very much in favor” of finding common ground whenever possible. “I’m a big fan of not having a totally insane opposition party,” he said. “The country would be a better place if we could get the basics right, and we could come to an agreement on there’s men and there’s women and they do not belong in each other’s locker rooms.”
That might seem like, in Neff’s words, “common sense,” but Megyn said her own evolution on the issue is a reminder that it can take time. “As somebody who had this all wrong back in the 2017, 2018 timeframe myself, I can say that when somebody sees the light and joins the right squad, we should welcome them with open arms – even if we disagree on literally everything else,” she noted. “I genuinely applaud her, I welcome her to the fight, and I hope she stays on the right side.”
She also praised Hyman for changing hearts and minds. “She was a game changer. This woman has not stopped talking since it happened, and she is very effective,” Megyn concluded. “She shut down a San Francisco meeting on this with the terrible [CA State Sen.] Scott Wiener… She appears to have convinced Joy Reid. So, go, Tish!”
