A Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter refused to stay quiet when a biological male entered the women’s locker room at her gym – and the gym allegedly cancelled her membership because of it.
Tish Hyman posted a series of viral videos on social media this week in which she accused the Beverly Center Gold’s Gym, which was recently acquired by EoS Fitness, of revoking her membership after she complained multiple times about a ‘transgender woman’ using the women’s facilities.
On Tuesday’s show, Megyn was joined by Matt Walsh, host of The Matt Walsh Show, to discuss the controversy and why the reaction to it signals a pendulum shift towards sanity.
What Happened
Hyman posted a video of her confronting the ‘trans’ person alongside a male gym-goer after she said he came up behind her while she was changing and called her a “bitch” in “a deep angry voice.” She said she felt “terrified” and “ran into the gym screaming, ‘there is a man in the restroom.'”
In the video, the individual, who is wearing an all black outfit with a pair of earrings, was getting into a confrontation with an unidentified male patron before Hyman interjected. “Now he knows how to be a man, right,” she yelled. “Now he knows how to be a man. Stay outta the women’s locker room! We don’t want it. He needs to have his gym membership revoked for that shit!”
Staffers could be seen coming in and out of frame as Hyman referenced past complaints she has apparently filed against the individual. “We already filed reports. No, no, no! You can’t get rid of me for this! I’m a woman and I have every right not to want a man in the restroom when I’m naked! There are girls naked in there!” she exclaimed.
In the caption on Instagram, Hyman elaborated that “multiple women… have repeatedly made written reports on this man for coming into our women’s locker room harassing us, and the gym staff has done absolutely nothing!!”
Amid the commotion, the person casually walked back into the women’s locker room seemingly unfazed. Hyman was subsequently escorted from the gym, but not before a passerby filmed her railing against the lack of action in the lobby.
“Men! Grown men with big dicks in the women’s locker room! And that’s why I’m getting kicked out, and I wanna make sure the girls know,” she fumed. “What the f-ck? Everybody saw that man in the f-cking locker room, and no one’s saying shit… Me, naked in front of a man without my permission, but I’m the one who gets kicked out the gym, y’all!”
The Reaction
Megyn said she fully supported Hyman’s reaction to the situation, but she noted that, in fairness to Gold’s Gym, California state law requires public and private establishments to allow people to use the bathroom and changing rooms that align with their gender identity, not their biological sex.
“The reason this is happening is because the state law requires it. As much as I’d love to blame Gold’s Gym, Gavin Newsom and his pals have made it state law that every facility, public or private, has to allow this,” she explained. “It’s insane, it’s deeply wrong, and the voters of California don’t seem to give a damn.”
Walsh wasn’t as willing to let the gym off the hook because he said there are “times in life we have to draw a line” and this is “clearly” one of them. “I do blame Gold’s Gym also, though, because… you cannot put women in this position, children in this position… If I’m a business in that state, I’m just not going to allow it,” he said. “And then you kind of dare the state. What are they going to do? Shut me down? Well, go ahead. Let’s have that fight.”
But he said the culpability extends further. “The reaction from that woman is exactly correct, and… I think if everyone had reacted that way from the very beginning – when this madness first sort of started in earnest, like, 10 years ago – then it would have been shut down very quickly,” Walsh noted. “Usually, I don’t agree with making scenes in public, but there are times when that is called for. And you go into a [women’s] locker room and there’s a man in there? That should be a scene. That is how a normal person reacts.”
Cultural Shift
In the wake of the viral videos, Megyn said she tagged Gov. Newsom on X asking him to get involved, but she said she doesn’t expect much because “he has absolutely no courage on this front.” That is why Walsh believes should be an issue legislated at the federal level because the executive actions President Donald Trump has signed can only go so far.
“This is a place for federal law… This is not a states rights thing. This is a human rights thing,” he explained. “This is infringement on your rights as a human being, as a woman, for just a basic level of privacy and safety and security when you’re in your most vulnerable state in the locker room. You do have a right to that, that is being infringed upon, and so it is a federal issue.”
Ultimately, he believes that, despite their silence, even Democrats like Newsom know this is a losing issue. “[Hyman] asked that question: How could anyone think that this is right? And the answer to the question is that… aside from the actual trans activists themselves… no one else thinks it’s right,” Walsh posited. “There’s no way that Gavin Newsom could look at that situation and come to the conclusion that the woman who is objecting to the man in the locker room is in the wrong. He doesn’t actually think that. He knows that that’s totally crazy.”
He believes that is why Dems have generally tried to “run as far” and “as fast” as they can from the issue over the last couple of years. “I mean, Kamala Harris went through her entire abbreviated campaign and barely ever talked about it. She only talked about the trans issue, which she was absolutely forced to, and then she jumped off of it as fast as she could,” Walsh added. “Five years ago, you couldn’t stop [Democrat politicians] from running out of any camera they could find and talking about ‘trans rights’ and ‘trans women are women’… because, for a very brief moment in time, it seemed like that was the popular position, although it never was.”
“But now, the culture is just entirely against them,” Walsh concluded. “And they know it.”
