Hunter Biden just said the quiet part out loud.
After a series of bombshell interviews over the summer, the former first son is once again dipping his toe into the media waters. His latest sit-down has also made headlines for what he had to say about how former Vice President Kamala Harris wound up in the Biden administration.
On Wednesday’s show, Megyn was joined by Mark Halperin, Sean Spicer, and Dan Turrentine to discuss the revelation and why it is not doing the Democrat Party any favors.
Hunter’s Admission
Hunter sat for a more than three hour interview with Tommy Christopher on his Substack this week during which he addressed the controversial pardon he received from dad Joe Biden in the waning days of his presidency (he maintained it was only necessary because Donald Trump being elected president “changed everything”) and weighed in Harris’ book about her run for president in 2024.
Harris’ memoir, 107 Days, was billed as a “behind-the-scenes” look at the “shortest presidential campaign in modern history,” which began last summer after she was ordained the Democratic nominee when Biden dropped out of the race. But the tome has turned out to be more of an airing of grievances against her former boss and the White House he headed.
None of that is sitting well with Hunter, who told Christopher that he hasn’t read the book but some of her commentary has been “personally painful” for him. “I’m just really disappointed. I’ve just heard some of the things. I tried to block it out,” he said. “And I don’t know, I’d have to admit, it’s personally painful.”
After quite a bit of stammering, he questioned Harris’ loyalty to his father before bringing up his father’s loyalty to her. But in speaking about that “loyalty,” Hunter confirmed what many have long suspected about how Harris ended up as Biden’s running mate in 2020.
“Let me tell you about loyalty. The reason that he picked Kamala Harris is because of the fact that he believes, and I certainly believe, the most powerful force within the Democratic Party is and always has been the African-American women,” Hunter admitted. “They’re the heart and soul and the conscience of the Democratic Party. And that’s why he thought it was so important to have [her].”
Seemingly realizing he was not supposed to say that, Hunter attempted to backtrack. “And by the way, she had an incredible resume and is perfectly capable of being president of the United States and I would have gladly voted for her,” he added.
The troubled first son then returned to his initial point. “He chose her out of loyalty,” he said. “And… I guess I don’t understand why someone would choose the expedient path as it relates to that relationship; their own political expediency.”
Inconvenient Truths
In Megyn’s view, there is only one way to interpret what Hunter said. “He said it in sort of a back end way… [and] he had to add the ‘she’s qualified’ and ‘of course, I would have voted her.’ But what he is really saying is: She was never qualified; she got there for no reason other than her identity; so, she should STF [shut the f-ck up],” she posited. “That is how I read the Hunter Biden commentary.”
Turrentine Hunter “popping up with these kind of rolling commentaries” is “awful” for the Democrat Party, but that doesn’t mean he disagrees with what he said. “I mean, look, he is right. That is why Joe Biden picked her,” he acknowledged. “They wanted to try to increase turnout down in the Atlanta area, and in Philadelphia, and Detroit, and various places.”
Even so, he believes this is a case of the pot calling the kettle black. “You can’t make that statement and then turn around and say, ‘How dare she,'” he said.
As Turrentine explained, this rehashing of the failures of the past – be it from Harris, Karine Jean-Pierre, or even the Bidens themselves – is not doing the Dems any favors. “Joe Biden’s book is going to be coming out soon. Jill Biden, I think, is going to have something coming out,” he noted. “They’re going to go on the attack. Hunter Biden is then going to come defend his parents more… We have not heard the last of this, and it’s not helping us move forward.”
