I was honored to sit in the Charlie Kirk studio today, wearing the “Freedom” t-shirt, and hosting The Charlie Kirk Show.
I traveled out to Arizona last night and just stepping foot in the state, I mean, you can’t go more than 100 feet without seeing something to honor Charlie. That is especially true at the headquarters of Turning Point USA. There is an incredible outpouring around the world for him.
Learning to Laugh Again
Today had a different feel for me. I have been listening to the show all week with Vice President J.D. Vance, with the guys from The Daily Wire, with Glenn Beck, and, of course, we have been covering everything about Charlie on The Megyn Kelly Show. But being with his team made me feel better. It seemed like we were able to laugh a little. It is not that people aren’t grieving, but it is a sign of mental well being that you can find a way to chuckle here and there.
It just feels good to talk about him in a more lighthearted way because that is who he was. The last thing Charlie would have wanted was for us to be all sitting around feeling sad, especially while talking about him. So, to me, this feels like an appropriate way of handling grief, too.
The Way Forward
It was amazing to be at Turning Point USA. Everyone is young. Everyone is energetic. Everyone is upbeat – and by that I mean they are finding a way to laugh with one another, be with one another, and forge forward despite their grief.
This is the most optimistic I have felt since eight days ago about the future of Turning Point. We are in good hands. This organization will go forward. They can do it. They can do it because they knew Charlie very well, and they knew his vision, and they have been doing it. But they can also do it because you can just tell it is a family here, and they are more committed than ever to making sure that this organization stands, and grows, and becomes even stronger than it has been.
And it is going to be, hopefully, because they have the support of the world right now. And they also keep getting bits of good news here and there. Last night, the decision was made that Erika Kirk will take over as the CEO of Turning Point. Just saying that gives me the chills. It is exactly, of course, what Charlie would have wanted.
We know that from the tape we have seen of the two of them in what was one of the most beautiful love stories any of us have ever witnessed. It is an inspiration even to those who are already happily married to do even better, to try even harder, to make our spouse even happier.
Think of what somebody like that can do at the top of this organization in the name of her husband? It is going to be something to watch and participate in. They need everybody’s help, so be sure to go to TPUSA.com to learn more.
You can check out Megyn’s full guest-hosting appearance by tuning in to episode 1,152 on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you like to listen. And don’t forget that you can catch The Megyn Kelly Show live on SiriusXM’s Triumph (channel 111) weekdays from 12pm to 2pm ET.
