I want to address something that we have been talking a lot about in my house since Charlie Kirk’s assassination last week, and that is the Megyn Kelly Live tour we announced last Monday.
This would be the first time we have taken the show on the road. It is a cross-country tour set to begin next month. We started selling tickets last week, and we also began our promotional tour. Charlie was supposed to join us at the Bakersfield stop in California, and we paused all of our promotional efforts as soon as he was killed, first of all, out of respect and, second of all, because he was in a lot of the promos and it was totally inappropriate given what happened.
And then we had a serious discussion internally – with my team and with my family – about the tour because, as you probably know if you listen to the show, I don’t actually go out there that often. I am not like Charlie in that way. I have a public job, but I am more of a private person and most of my spare time is spent with my family.
In all of those talks, I have heard everyone’s concerns and am well aware of the challenges that now face us in doing this. But all I can tell you is there is no f-cking way I am canceling one stop on this tour. Not one stop. It is not that I don’t have some concerns. Of course I do. I am human. But there is no f-cking way we are not doing this tour. It is more important now than ever.
I said to my team that, at this point, I don’t care if every single guest cancels on me. I don’t care if there are two people in the audience as we go from city to city. I am going to stand on these stages; I am going to say all the things that we say all the time on this show; and I will speak to those two people from the heart and be forever grateful to them for showing up.
I see no other way forward. We absolutely have to keep talking. We absolutely have to keep this discussion going. To cower, to hide, to go silent is not the answer. It is just not the answer.
So, I am going on tour, and I really hope you show up. Now more than ever, I would love to see you all face to face. I need to see you face to face. I think this is probably the best thing I can do for my own emotional state at the moment.
We can make this safe for me, we can make it safe for you, and we can make it safe for our guests. We are going to have significant security, as you might imagine. It may be somewhat of a pain in the ass to actually get into the venues – at least more so than it was going to be – and I hope you can understand that. We are going to make it safe, so we can get together to talk about the things that matter.
And we are still going to have some fun. I was really looking forward to the tour sort of being a raucous good time, and I think that still will be the case. If you are coming out of your homes and you are going to spend your time with me, I want you to enjoy yourself. I am sure that the stop in California where Charlie was going to join us will be more somber, and we are still debating what to do there. We are not canceling it. Trust me, I will be there. But we want to figure out an appropriate way to honor him, and we will be honoring Charlie throughout the tour.
In any event, I just wanted to start this week as we did last week by telling you I am doing this tour this fall, and I would love for you to join me. You can buy tickets and find out more information here at MegynKelly.com. I hope to see you there.
