‘What on Earth Was That?’ Kamala Harris Packs Her Toothbrush in Latest Bizarre Book Tour Promo

After Kamala Harris’ first failed run for the White House ended in a four-year stint as vice president, the 2024 Democratic nominee is cashing in on her second failed presidential bid with a new memoir and accompanying book tour.

Harris announced the book in late July with a cringey video and a glitchy appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, but she somehow managed to one up herself with an even more bizarre promo for her tour.

On Tuesday’s show, Megyn was joined by the hosts of The Fifth Column – Kmele Foster, Michael Moynihan, and Matt Welch – to discuss the former vice president’s strange return to the national stage.

The Promos

Harris made dueling announcements last month when she confirmed she would not be running for governor of California to replace the term-limited Gavin Newsom in 2026 but, instead, would be publishing a book this fall about the “shortest presidential campaign in modern history.”

Titled 107 Days in reference to the length of her run after being crowned as Joe Biden’s replacement, she claims the book is “not a recap of our race” but rather “a candid and personal account” of her journey.

“Since leaving office, I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on those days, talking with my team, my family, my friends, and pulling my thoughts together. In essence, writing a journal that is this book, 107 Days,” Harris said while visibly reading from a teleprompter in her stiffly staged launch video. “I believe there is value in sharing what I saw, what I learned, and what I know it will take to move forward.”

Harris subsequently announced a 15-city book tour – which includes a jump across the pond to London – with a slickly produced video, but it didn’t take long for the awkwardness to return. Last week, the former VP tried to promote ticket sales with a head-scratching post about packing. Watch:

Wearing a white sweatsuit and slippers, Harris claimed she “almost forgot” her toothbrush and some sort of skincare product as she approached a suitcase filled with copies of her book. She was planning to “make some room” in the bag before thinking better of it and declaring, “Actually, I think I have everything I need.”

Lenny Kravitz’s “It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over” played in the background as a slate with the tour cities and dates flashed on screen. “We packed it all in — the suitcase and the stories,” the caption read. “Tickets for the 107 Days book tour are on sale.”

Kamala’s Comedy Gold?

Moynihan was at a complete loss for words and inquired if the bedroom scene was supposed to be interpreted as Harris just coming out of the bathroom, but Welch and Foster were more taken with the song choice. “It ain’t over ’til it’s over,” Foster asked. “What is that about?”

Megyn admitted she hadn’t noticed the song at first, but agreed the unemployed politician was likely trying to send a message. “It is over. You realize you didn’t win, Stacey Abrams,” she quipped. “I don’t know… I think she thinks it ain’t over. I think she actually thinks she does have a shot in 2028.”

Running in 2028 would require a substantive platform, something Harris could not seem to cull together in 2024. That is why Megyn said she is considering issuing a challenge to anyone willing to suffer through a tour stop and report back. “I will give, like, five bucks a pop for any new idea she expresses… because this woman has no new ideas,” she noted. “There will be nothing of substance said. It is going to be the worst waste of money to go see this person and buy this book.”

Given Harris’ history, Moynihan said Megyn was actually being charitable with her “no new ideas” critique. “Megyn, to say that this woman has ‘no new ideas’ is one word too long,” he joked. “I don’t think she’s ever had a single idea, period. That was very generous of you.”

He might, however, be willing to take her up on her offer. “I might go,” he concluded. “It could be comedy gold.”
