How the Rise of Sydney Sweeney Marks a Rejection of the ‘Kardashian-ization’ of Beauty Standards

I gave my full thoughts on how Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle ad campaign officially confirms the “era of woke is over” last week (you can read them here), but I want to add one addendum.

Shifting Standards

I think another thing that people are responding positively to with these ads is the fact that Sweeney is all woman. She has a great pair on her that would be the envy of virtually every woman, and they are obviously natural. And she is natural. If she has had work done, it is imperceptible.

In some ways, she is the opposite of a Kardashian. She is petite, she is buxom (but they are real), and her face is not overly prodded or manipulated. She looks normal. She looks like a pretty American girl who has not Kardashian-ized herself. She is a natural beauty, and I think people are responding to that.

The public is done with the Lauren Sánchezes of the world and the enormous lips that would scare you if you were sitting across from them at the dinner table. People are done with it. So, here comes this woman who is not “perfect” by the weird TikTok- and Instagram-filter standard – and that is the point. It is nice to see someone who is a classic American beauty be totally embraced.

Laying a Trap

I don’t think this was part of American Eagle’s plan, but these ads have turned out to be a trap for the left. You and I both know what happened in November 2024 and what message was sent by the voters who elected Donald Trump, but the left either didn’t listen or doesn’t understand.

Frankly, it doesn’t matter either way because they are not prepared to take it. They are not de-wokifying their party, and they walked right into this trap by recoiling at Sydney Sweeney’s appearance and the messaging of the ad.

Both the president and vice president have weighed in on all of the hysteria, and Vice President J.D. Vance really spoke to this point with the fellas over at Ruthless. Here’s what he said:

“My political advice to the Democrats is: Continue to tell everybody who thinks Sydney Sweeney is attractive is a Nazi. That appears to be their actual strategy,” Vance joked. “I mean, it actually reveals something pretty interesting about the Dems, though, which is that you have, like, a normal, all-American, beautiful girl doing, like, a normal jeans ad, right? They’re trying to sell jeans to kids in America. And they have managed to so unhinge themselves over this thing.”

“It’s like, you guys, did you learn nothing from the November 2024 election? I actually thought that one of the lessons they might take is: We’re going to be less crazy. The lesson they have apparently taken is: We’re going to attack people as Nazis for thinking Sydney Sweeney is beautiful,” he added. “Great strategy, guys. That’s how you’re going to win the midterms, especially young American men.”

He is such an effective spokesperson for our side. He is spot on, especially to the point about young men. The Democrats are literally spending tens of millions to figure out how to talk to them and how to recruit back to Team Blue.

Freaking out about Sydney Sweeney is not it. This would be lesson number one in how not to do it. It is a serious problem that is only getting worse for the Democrats.
