Megyn Shares a Touching Update in a Story She First Covered Three Years on ‘The Megyn Kelly Show’

If you are a longtime viewer or listener of The Megyn Kelly Show, you may recall the powerful story of Blake Barklage, a 17-year-old high school senior who died of sudden cardiac arrest in 2021. You can revisit his story here.

Blake’s memory lives on in the many inspiring ways his family and friends have come together to honor his life and legacy. They started a charity in his name, Blake Gives Back, which focuses on the prevention and treatment of sudden cardiac arrest in children and teens in partnership with the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), and do various things in the community.

When Megyn sat down with Blake’s parents, Alison and Tom, his sister, Alexis, and some of his closest friends in the summer of 2022, they all spoke about the many “signs” they felt they had received from him in the form of sunsets, orange golf balls, and bumper stickers (to name a few) in the wake of his death.

Three years on from those conversations, Blake is still making his presence known to those who loved him and those he never met as Megyn shared in a poignant update on Monday’s show.

Remembering Blake

“I have a sweet story to tell you – a palate cleanser of sorts. We have friends here at the beach who I featured on the show a couple of years ago. And the reason I featured them was because they lost their 17-year-old son, Blake Barklage, to myocarditis. It was a sudden cardiac event. They don’t know what caused it. Everybody thought it was COVID or the vaccines. They really don’t know.

The point is, they lost their son and they are dear friends of ours. They started a charity in their son’s name. It’s called Blake Gives Back, and they help do, like, heart screenings at high schools to try to stop this from happening to other young boys or girls. They raise funds to try to help other kids.

Anyway, they gave some of the Blake gear that they had, which always has a “BB” on it [as a nod to his initials], to a homeless shelter. Blake’s dad Tom was driving in his car today, and what did he see? He saw a guy out on the street who was clearly homeless or indigent with all this Blake Barklage gear on. Tom said, ‘This guy’s got a guardian angel up there right now. Blake’s looking down at him right now trying to figure out how to help this guy take his next steps.’

And just as you see the frivolity of people like [Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez], you are reminded of the goodness of your fellow man by the family of Blake Barklage and stories like this where you see one small, good deed manifesting out on the road. It makes you think ‘Right on.’ It reminds us that those are the kind of humans most of us actually spend our days with.”
