Joe Biden Boasts About Becoming a Great-Grandfather During Somber L.A. Wildfire Press Conference

Joe Biden was in fire-ravaged Southern California on Wednesday to sign a disaster declaration alongside Gov. Gavin Newsom, but he used the somber occasion to share what he called “good news.”

During the briefing, the president announced that he is now a great-grandfather before declining to take questions from reporters.

On Thursday’s show, Megyn was joined by Adam Carolla, host of The Adam Carolla Show, to discuss Biden’s latest bizarre behavior and what it illustrates about the end of his presidency.

Biden’s ‘Good News’

Biden became a great-grandfather on Wednesday when his granddaughter Naomi gave birth to her first child in a Los Angeles hospital. He chose to announce the “good news” just steps from the deadly wildfires that raged nearby.

The event with Newsom and the president at a Santa Monica fire station began normally, with Biden pledging federal support to aid those impacted by the infernos. “We’re prepared to do anything and everything as long as it takes to contain these fires and help reconstruct, make sure that we can get back to normal,” he said. “It’s gonna be a hell of a long way. It’s gonna take time. But the government is here to stay, as long as you need us. Give everything you need. Anything you asked and haven’t gotten yet?”

After Newsom thanked Biden for the assistance, the conversation took a turn. “The good news is, I’m a great-grandfather as of today,” the 82 year old told reporters. “I’ll remember this day for a lot of reasons.”

He then appeared to mix up the gender of the newborn before declining to take questions from the press. Biden was reportedly at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in L.A. for the birth in the morning before attending the fire briefing. The president also said his son Hunter’s Malibu home is still standing despite devastation in the area.

‘Right on Brand’

The insensitive moment was the latest in a string of strange public appearances from the lame duck commander in chief in his waning days in office.

“News flash: Joe Biden is still the president… and, right on brand, the president thought now would be a great time for him to lighten the mood and have some fun as people are seeing [their] homes get burned down, [their] neighborhoods get burned down,” Megyn said. “And this is the pivot… he’s a great-grandfather and he had a great-grandchild who is a baby boy or a baby girl – not clear which. He said both. It’s so reassuring.”

Carolla, who was forced to evacuate his home and is not sure whether it has been damaged, said the child will surely be able to capitalize on the Biden name either way. “Okay, if it’s a baby girl, she can run the Los Angeles Fire Department,” he quipped in reference to LAFD chief Kristin Crowley, who is now under fire for prioritizing DEI initiatives over fire preparedness.

“And if it’s a baby boy, then he can go off to Russia and China and hammer checks on his [great-]grandfather’s name,” Carolla added as a nod to the president’s troubled son. “So, either way, that kid is going to land on its feet.”
