Why Megyn Says J.Lo ‘Is Not a Person We Should Be Taking Advice From’ After Harris Rally Speech

As the Harris-Walz campaign attempts to make its closing pitch to traditionally Democrat voting blocks that Donald Trump has made inroads into, they are deploying a star-studded list of surrogates in key battleground states.

There was Lizzo in Detroit, Beyoncé in Houston, Bruce Springsteen in Philadelphia, and now Jennifer Lopez in Las Vegas. The singer spoke of her Puerto Rican heritage while criticizing the joke made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at Donald Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally last weekend.

On Friday’s show, Megyn was joined by Nicole Shanahan, host of Back to the People, to discuss Lopez’s remarks and why voters need to remember who is speaking out in support of Team Harris.

J.Lo’s Campaign Stop

Lopez was campaigning with Kamala Harris in Nevada on Thursday when she said Trump offended “every Latino in this country” during his rally in New York City last Sunday. Her assertion was a reaction to Hinchcliffe’s joke in which he called Puerto Rico — where Lopez’s parents were born — a “floating island of garbage.”

The Maid in Manhattan star spoke about her perception of the U.S. government. “I remember growing up my president cared about me, cared about my parents, cared about my neighbors and my community – not just some Americans, but all Americans,” Lopez said. “I believe that our kids and this wonderfully progressively innovative and inclusive young generation deserve that too, and it is in our hands. It’s our responsibility to provide that for them.”

She then accused the GOP nominee of sowing seeds of division. “He has consistently worked to divide us. At Madison Square Garden, he reminded us who he really is and how he really feels,” Lopez continued. “It wasn’t just Puerto Ricans that were offended that day, okay? It was every Latino in this country. It was every humanity and anyone of decent character.”

Ultimately, Lopez said she wants the “good girl” to prevail. “I am a mother, I am a sister, I am an actor and an entertainer, and I like Hollywood endings. I like when the good guy or, in this case, the good girl wins,” she added.

The performer’s appearance was part of a larger push from the Harris campaign to reach Latino voters in western swing states like Arizona and Nevada, and Megyn took issue with Lopez’s framing. “She tried to pretend that Trump hates Puerto Ricans because of that joke that a comedian told four hours before Trump even took the stage at his MSG rally,” she noted. “She makes it sound like Donald Trump made the joke, not some comedian four hours before him.”

Acting Offended?

Lopez and the Harris team continue to try to tie the “garbage” joke to Trump directly, but Megyn said it fails to acknowledge what is actually on the ballot this election. She also believes the actress “is not a person we should be taking advice from.”

“Jennifer Lopez has had four failed marriages. [She] is either mother to or stepmother to two children who are on the trans spectrum, and that is no accident,” Megyn explained. “This is a Hollywood thing. This is a liberal elite thing where they are handing their children over to the gender cult without any appreciation for how some gender questions are normal, 99 percent of children grow out of it if you just leave them alone, socially transitioning them is extremely dangerous.”

Shanahan shared that she was at the Trump rally in Arizona on Thursday, where she said there was a “big turnout” of Latinos. In her own circles, she said the people have expressed they “didn’t love the joke” but also “see right through” the Democrats’ tactics. “They are smart enough to know that it did not come from Donald Trump and it was intended as a joke,” she noted.

At the end of the day, Shanahan said it is important to remember who has been tapped to speak on behalf of the Harris-Walz campaign. “These are paid actors. They are paid professionally to say things that somebody else puts in their mouth,” she concluded. “And I believe that the American public needs to start seeing that these are not real people sharing real information… They are actors.”
